Red Bank Catholic’s girls got their spring outdoor track and field season off to an impressive start by winning their division at Saturday’s Huskie Relay.
The Caseys were seven points better than runner-up Hanover Park, 65-58, in the race for the Division II team title. Matawan High School hosted the relays.
RBC won two events on the way to the championship.
Cara D’Angellila, Ariel Joiner, Sam Chan and Kathleen Balog won the shuttle hurdles in 1:10.2.
The Caseys picked up their second win in the Distance Medley Relay. Tina Forgach, Kat Sharashian, Meg McGrath and Chelsea Bollerman clocked 13:12.9.
Shore Regional’s distance standouts Justine Carnevale, Laura Embry, Nicole Ullmeyer and Martine McGrath, won the 4×800 in 10:03.2.
In Division II, Ocean Township was runner-up to Holmdel, 72-67, despite having four winning teams. Sprinters Tiffany Grant and Georgina Nembhard played a big role in the Spartans’ success.
Grant anchored the 4×200 relay team that ran a 1:47.9. Nembhard ran the opening leg with Jaimie Brown and Kim Rosenberg running the middle legs.
Nembhard showed her hurdle talents by running the opening leg of the shuttle hurdles relay. Patty Yau, Erin Conway and Brown set a division meet record 1:10.5. They topped the 1999 mark of 1:11.0 set by Lacey.
Grant, Nembhard, Brown and Kristin Enderly won the Sprint Medley in 4:30.0
Ocean’s fourth win was the DMR where Danielle Tucholski, Grant, Jackie LaRusso and Kayla Hanke turned in a 13:18.9.
Long Branch’s Nadine Hurd and Deseria Sanders won the Division II long jump (28-5 1/2).
Shore Regional’s boys won four relays in Division I, but finished second to host Matawan, 92-71.
Pablo Marin, Justin Palamore, Joe Ruane and Scott Britton won the 4×800 in 8:34.6.
In the intermediate hurdles, the trio of Matt Villane, Matt Reidy and Mike Oshetsky were first in 2:57.4 as they averaged a sub-60 second 400 each.
It was Taylor Kirk, Villane, Reidy and Britton teaming up for the Sprint Medley win in 3:40.8.
Jason and Bryan Wrubel won the shot put (91-6 1/2).
RBC’s boys won two relays while finishing fifth in the Division I team standings with 50 points.
The DMR team won in 11:03.2. Pete Forgach, Donnie Brown, Casey Brown and Joe Berardi made up the victorious quartet for the Caseys.
In the long jump, Donnie Brown and Sean O’Malley finished first with combined jumps of 37-9 1/4.
The relay season continues tomorrow at Holmdel High School with the Holmdel Relays.
The Rebel Relays at Howell High School, which were originally scheduled for April 2, but postponed by torrential rains, have been reschedule for April 23.
