Council names new member

Planning Board member Harry Brown replaces former Councilman Michael Carroll on the Fieldsboro Borough Council.

FIELDSBORO — The Borough Council this week named Planning Board member Harry Brown to replace former Councilman Michael Carroll.
According to Mayor Ed Tyler, Mr. Carroll resigned his seat on the Borough Council last week, citing pressing family and work responsibilities. Mr. Brown, 52, who lives on Fourth Street, was named as his replacement and will serve out Mr. Carroll’s term, which expires at the end of this year.
Mr. Brown was scheduled to be sworn into office Wednesday night, after the Register-News went to press. Mr. Carroll and Mr. Brown both are Democrats.
Mayor Tyler said Mr. Brown’s position as a Planning Board member for the past five years made him a good candidate for Borough Council. More than that, the mayor said, Mr. Brown’s presence as a member of the community has also kept him in the council’s favor. Mr. Brown, after all, is the guy who tows Santa’s sled through town every Christmas, Mayor Tyler said.
Overall, the mayor said Mr. Brown is a good choice because he is level-headed, intelligent and concerned. "He has the courage to stand up and say what he believes," Mayor Tyler said. "He’s not afraid to help out."
Mr. Brown has also filed to run for one of two available three-year council seats this year.
