Fieldsboro Borough Council’s 2005 budget represents the borough’s first municipal tax rate increase in a decade.
FIELDSBORO The Borough Council was expected to introduce its 2005 budget on Wednesday, a $570,000 package that represents the borough’s first municipal tax rate increase in a decade.
The budget, which carries a tax levy of 74.7 cents per $100 of assessed property value, represents a municipal tax bill of $647 to the owner of a home assessed at township average $86,600 home. This tax rate is an increase of 10 cents per $100 over last year’s budget.
The introduction was slated for Wednesday night, after the Register-News went to press.
Mayor Ed Tyler said the increase in the tax rate this year is largely due to operational costs related to the municipal sewer plant, including $45,000 in state fines for contamination infiltration and repair there.
"Unfortunately we have to raise taxes," the mayor said.
Borough officials have not yet announced when the public hearing for the budget will be held.
