Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday.
After years of fund-raising, planning and construction, Hopewell Valley’s Skate Park will open on April 16.
The grand opening festivities, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a DJ, skate contests with prizes, skaters sponsored by Extreme Function, a skate shop in Hamilton, and free food and beverages provided by Pennington Quality Market.
Pennington’s very own skate celebrity, Pete Eldridge, also will appear, to skate and sign autographs.
Mr. Eldridge, 24, grew up in Pennington, graduating from HVCHS in 1999. A professional skater, Mr. Eldridge began competing in the Tampa Am, a national skateboarding competition, as a 13 year-old. He currently skates for City Skateboards, Thunder Trucks and Hubba Wheels.
The new 11,500-square-foot skate park was designed and constructed by Spohn Ranch, a skate park design company in City of Industry, Calif.
Located near the municipal buildings and baseball fields on Scotch Road and Pennington-Titusville Road, the park features a 20-foot curved concrete bench, a 3-by-8-foot quarter pipe, a 4-by-18-foot half pipe, a concrete grindbox, freestanding grindrails as well as other equipment.
Use of the park will be free. Skaters are required to wear helmets and pads and adhere to the rules posted at the park, which will be open rain or shine.
