As of Monday night, businesses and consumers have been able to support Hillsborough businesses by visiting the Economic and Business Development Commission (EBDC) Web site.
EBDC member Leon Krals presented the Web site, www.HillsboroughBusiness.org, to the Hillsborough Township Committee meeting on Tuesday.
Mr. Krals, the commission’s webmaster, told committee members four businesses had already registered with the site and had not reported any problems.
"Registration is easy," he said. "It’s a three-step process for the businesses. Then information is reviewed by the EBDC."
Mr. Krals said that the Web site is the first of its kind in Somerset County, offering an inexpensive way of providing a Web presence to local businesses.
The purpose of the Web site is to foster goals of the EBDC within the township, which Mr. Krals said includes promoting existing businesses’ growth and encouraging new businesses in the township.
"The Web site only shows Hillsborough businesses and can help promote local, small businesses through its searchable business directory," he said. "It will also have a monthly featured business section for businesses deserving special recognition."
The Web site initiative started a month ago with Committeeman Anthony Ferrera and the members of the Economic and Business Development Commission working on a volunteer basis.
Mr. Ferrera, the committee’s liaison to the EBDC, said that he was thankful to be liaison to a group with such strong dedication.
"They’re all volunteers who spent a month on this and went above and beyond what this commission expected in creating this Web site," he said. "You won’t see better Web sites."
