A 24-year-old East Brunswick man, who is accused of pointing a shotgun at a man and threatening him during a dispute about missing drugs, surrendered to township police on Tuesday.
Tiago Oliveria surrendered Tuesday afternoon and was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and making terroristic threats after police said he pointed a gun at an 18-year-old Sayreville resident, police said.
The incident took place in a wooded area behind the Dey Farm on Dey Road between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday, according to police.
According to police, the victim, who was not injured, reported that Mr. Oliveria was threatening him and accusing him of stealing his marijuana.
"The allegation is that Tiago accused (the victim) of taking something that belonged to him and threatened him with a gun with respect to that," said Detective James Stoddard.
Police said the victim reported that he pushed the gun away and ran to a nearby residence where he called police.
"On the night of the incident, which was Sunday evening, we were able to piece together enough information as to his identity, then it was just a matter of going through some databases," Detective Stoddard said.
Detective Stoddard said Mr. Oliveria surrendered after police and his lawyer decided it was in his best interest.
Police said two minors also were involved in the incident, but would not comment further because they are minors.
Detective Stoddard said Mr. Oliveria was charged with aggravated assault for pointing the shotgun at the victim and with terroristic threats for threatening to shoot the gun.
He posted $2,500 bail and was released. He is scheduled for a April 21 court appearance.
