PLAINSBORO Incumbent Mayor Peter Cantu will face Republican Stacey Zieminski in a race for one open seat on the Township Committee in November.
Mayor Cantu, a Beechtree Lane resident, is a 31-year-member of the Township Committee and has been mayor for 25 years.
The Plainsboro Democratic Organization unanimously endorsed Mr. Cantu Wednesday.
"Mayor Cantu’s contributions to the community, commitment to the township, all of which has made Plainsboro a dynamic community that works well together, is unparalleled in our region," said Greta Kiernan, president of the Plainsboro Democratic Club.
Ms. Zieminski of Pheasant Hollow Drive has resided in Plainsboro for two years.
"Plainsboro is really not too big with the Republican Party, and I feel very strongly about running," she said.
Ms. Zieminski said she is particularly concerned about property taxes and residential development putting a strain on taxpayers and the school system.
Mr. Cantu was not available for comment.
The deadline to file for candidacy in the June primary elections was Monday.
The open Township Committee seat carries a three-year term.
