New mothers offered stroller walk and fitness program

Between the 6 a.m. breast-feedings, periodic tantrums and constant diaper changes, exercise may be the last thing new mothers have time for.
But a new-to-the-area Stroller Strides program offers these moms an opportunity to tend to their young ones and stay in shape in the same push, pull and tone maneuver.
Stroller Strides, a stroller walk and fitness program, will roll its way into Princeton and West Windsor beginning next week.
Grand-opening information sessions on the program are scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 29, in Palmer Square and Friday, May 6, at West Windsor Community Park. Classes — which will take place at MarketFair shopping center, West Windsor Community Park, Princeton Community Park North and the Princeton Shopping Center — will begin the week of May 9.
In addition to providing toning and cardiovascular exercise, Stroller Strides says its classes also offer new moms a break from the exhilarating, yet sometimes isolating and difficult task of caring for a newborn child.
Stroller Strides, which was founded in 2001, aims to work against postpartum depression by offering new moms increased opportunities for socialization and activity.
The program combines exercise tubing and stroller moves into a 60-minute workout. Throughout the session, mothers are urged to tend to and interact with their babies as needed.
The cost is $15 per session, $100 for 10 classes, $199 for unlimited classes over three months, and $50 per month — with a $75 membership fee —for monthly memberships.
