Twp. woman victim of sexual assault

OCEAN TOWNSHIP — Police are seeking a man who attacked and sexually assaulted a township woman on April 12 at about 9 p.m.

The 45-year-old woman had just gotten off a bus on Route 35 and was walking along a wooded area near the Continental Gardens Apartments when she was grabbed and punched in the face, police said.

According to police, she was knocked to the ground. The man grabbed her purse and threw it away from her. She was then dragged further into the woods where the man sexually assaulted her and fled.

After the attack, the woman went to an apartment in the complex and called the police. She was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where she was treated for injuries, which were characterized as abrasions and swelling, and released, police said.

The man fled the area. He was described as a 5-foot-10 black male of medium build, wearing a gray sweatshirt and blue jeans, according to police.
