Latin afternoon set at Nassau Presbyterian

A special Latin American afternoon at Nassau Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 1, will raise funds for a parent-run school in Guatemala.
In July, 20 people from the Princeton area will spend a week at the Parramos school, teaching English and health classes, repairing buildings and running a medical clinic. A medical team from the Boston area will work with them.
The May 1 program will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a dinner of Latin American specialties at the church, 61 Nassau St., Princeton. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for ages 18 and younger. They are available at the church office during the week, (609) 924-0103.
At 1:30 p.m., John Pohl, an authority on American Indian civilizations, will speak and show slides of art from the Princeton University Art Museum’s Mesoamerican collection. The program is free, but donations will be accepted.
Mr. Pohl is noted for bringing the ancient past to life using a variety of innovative skills and techniques. His unusual background in archaeology, art history and media production has taken him from museum exhibition design at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to the entertainment industry, where he won a CLIO Award for his television animation design.
El Centro Educativo Valle de los Pinos (Valley of the Pines Educational Center) in Guatemala has about 400 students. Nassau Church and the Latin American Task Force of Princeton formed a partnership with the school in 2002. Volunteers from these organizations have worked at the school each July since then.
