Tuesday is ‘Fight Cancer Day’ at Pennington Market

PQM will join forces with The American Cancer Society and donate 5 percent of its total sales to the society.

   Pennington Quality Market (PQM) will hold its 11th annual "Fight Cancer Day" on Tuesday, April 26, from 8 a.m.-9 p.m.
   On this special day PQM will join forces with The American Cancer Society (ACS) and donate 5 percent of its total sales to the ACS. The donation will be used to further cancer research, public education and patient services.
   Over the past 11 years PQM has contributed a total of $119,192 to the ACS.
   When the doors open at 8 a.m. the first 200 customers will receive a free half-gallon of Tropicana orange juice. Over 60 celebrity baggers will lend their time throughout the day by bagging groceries.
   Entertainment will begin at 10 a.m. with music from the PQM jazz band. Arnie the Balloon Man will create fanciful balloon creations also starting at 10 a.m. The Mummertime Musicians will perform throughout the afternoon. Two live radio broadcasts are scheduled. Chris Rollins from WPST will broadcast from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and Brian Di Marrio, Hawk Night Show Host will play easy listening between 2 and 4 p.m.
   Children can have their faces painted from 2-6 p.m. by PQM artist Judy Roseboro. Highlighting the entertainment will be a special appearance by Swoop, The Philadelphia Eagles mascot, from 5-6 p.m.
   PQM and the ACS also have scheduled a variety of preventive health screenings.
   PQM associate Linda Bregenzer, a registered EMT of the Pennington Road Rescue Squad, will take free blood pressure readings from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
   From 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tia Donohue, a certified massage therapist, will offer free neck and shoulder massages.
   Learn how to safely stop smoking with help from the Mercer County Employee Assistance counselors from 1-3:30 p.m.
   From 10 a.m.-5 p.m., ACS will explain their "Slip, Slop, Slap" program and a Derma Scan machine will be available to illustrate the importance of sun protection.
   From 10 a.m.-5 p.m., get a Body Fat Analysis from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton.
   ACS will display and provide materials concerning their guidelines for prevention and early detection of breast and testicular education from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
   From 9 a.m.-4 p.m., shoppers can learn more about "Relay for Life," a community and family event.
   Those who want something to eat will get free samples, including dishes prepared by chefs of PQM’s Catered Cuisine. Shoppers also can have a Boar’s Head hot dog and a Coke for $1 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. with all proceeds going to fight cancer.
   The Fight Cancer Day Raffle will offer an assortment of prizes donated by local area merchants including The Front Porch, Freedman’s Jewelers, Scarborough Video, Pennington Bagel Experience, Pennington Clock Shop, Off-Broadstreet Theatre, Orion Jewelry Studio, Photo Haven, The Fitness Corner, Pennington Dance, TJ’s Trattoria, Stony Brook Gardens, Party Things, Tia Donohue (massage therapist), Vito’s Pizza, Jazams, and many more.
   Raffle tickets can be purchased at PQM beginning Friday (April 22). All proceeds will be added to the total amount raised.
