Greater Media Newspapers wins 29 NJPA awards for ’04

Greater Media Newspapers has won 26 editorial, photography and advertising awards in the New Jersey Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest for 2004.

The group tally included 12 awards for outstanding photography, nine awards for classified advertising, one award for retail advertising, and four awards for reporting.

Photographer Jeff Granit won three first-place awards in the categories of General News Picture Story, Pictorial and Feature Picture Story.

In the classified contest, first-place awards were given for Best Real Estate Display Ad, Best Recruitment Ad, Best External Classified Promotion Idea and Best Classified Directory.

Gloria Stravelli, managing editor of The Hub and Atlanticville, won a first-place writing award for Freshest Treatment of a Tired Topic.

Second-place awards were: Best Real Estate Display Ad, News Transcript; Best Agency Produced Ad, Independent; Best Classified/Telemarketing Directory, Tri-Town News; Best External Classified Promotion Idea, News Transcript; Best New Product Development (How-To Guide), News Transcript; Best Headlines, Karl Vilacoba, North/South Brunswick Sentinel; and Responsible Journalism/Editorial Comment, Karl Vilacoba, the North/South Brunswick Sentinel.

In the photography contest, second-place winners were General News Picture Story, Jerry Wolkowitz, Independent, and Sports Action, Christopher Kelly, The Hub.

Third-place awards were: Best Real Estate Display Ad, Spot Color, Tri-Town News; Best Real Estate Display Ad, Spot Color, The Hub; and Special Subject Writing, Karl Vilacoba, Brick Township Bulletin. In the photography contest, third-place awards were given for Sports Feature Picture Story, Jeff Granit, Atlanticville; Spot News, Jerry Wolkowitz, News Transcript; General News Picture Story, Jeff Granit, Sentinel; Feature Picture Story, Christopher Kelly, The Hub; Sports Feature, Jeff Granit, The Hub; and Feature, Miguel Juarez, Tri-Town News.
