Works of art connect communities

MARLBORO — Middle school students from Johana, Japan, and Marlboro participated in the Sister Cities International Young Artists Exhibit/Competition. The theme of the exhibit was “Connecting Global Villages.”

Johana and Marlboro have an existing relationship established through Sister Cities International, a nonprofit citizen diplomacy network creating and strengthening partnerships between the United States and international communities, according to a press release from the school district.

The young artists exhibit featured seven pieces of art created by Johana Junior High School students and eight pieces of art created by Marlboro Middle School and Marlboro Memorial Middle School students. The artwork was displayed at Marlboro Memorial Middle School from April 11-15.

District administrators voted that Margaret To’s picture best represented the Sister Cities International theme. Margaret is a student at Marlboro Memorial Middle School.

Margaret’s picture will be sent to Washington, D.C., to represent the Marlboro school district at the international exhibit/competition on April 29.

The remaining works of art have an opportunity to be sent to Johana in September as part of an art exchange, according to the information provided by the school district.
