Karl Pettit

   LAMBERTVILLE — Karl D. Pettit Jr. of Lambertville died Thursday, April 14, at University Medical Center at Princeton. He was 89.
   Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Karl D. Pettit and Estelle Fitch Pettit and widower of Ruth Aten Pettit.
   He moved to Princeton in 1922 where he attended Princeton Country Day School and The Hun School before attending Ashville School where he graduated in 1935.
   At Ashville, he excelled in track and football in which he was selected for the first team All Western-North Carolina squad.
   Following Ashville, Mr. Pettit attended Princeton University where he was a member of Cannon Club and the Class of 1939.
   During World War II, Mr. Pettit was a naval fighter pilot and an aviation pioneer as an instructor in the Navy Aviator’s Night Fighter program. He remained in the Naval Reserve until 1959 when he retired as a lieutenant commander.
   Following the war, Mr. Pettit raised his family in Princeton. For the last four years of his life, he lived in Lambertville where he attended the First Presbyterian Church.
   Mr. Pettit worked in the mutual fund industry and as an investment counselor. He was sales director for Knickerbocker Fund from 1946 to 1952, president of Future Planning Corporation from 1952 to 1960 and a regional sales manager for Waddell & Reed from 1961 until retirement in 2001.
   He was a member of the National Association of Securities Dealers Ethics Committee from 1952 to 1960.
   Mr. Pettit was a member of Springdale Golf Club from 1948 to 1970 and was active with Princeton Alumni Activities.
   He is survived by his three daughters, Helen E. Pettit of Lambertville, Katherine P. Cruser of Princeton and Dorothy R. Pettit of Westport, Conn.; a son, Karl D. Pettit III of New Hope; four grandchildren, Bryce S. Chase Jr., Stephanie C. Haegley, Pauli R. Pettit and Karl D. Pettit IV; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Walter F. Pettit of Piedmont, Calif., William D. Pettit of Princeton and Samuel L. Pettit of Wilmington, Del.; and two sisters, Mary P. Funk of Princeton and Barbara P. Finch of Atlantic Highlands, N.J.
   A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Nassau Presbyterian Church in Princeton.

Joseph DiSalvi

   LAMBERTVILLE — Joseph "Puggy" F. DiSalvi, 79, of Lambertville died Saturday, April 23, at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township.
   Mr. Di Salvi was born in Lambertville and was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine Di Salvi.
   He married the former June Reed, and the couple celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in February.
   He retired from General Motors in Trenton after 31 years of service.
   Mr. DiSalvi was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Lambertville.
   He was a founding member of the Lambertville Ramblers football program in 1968.
   He was a member of the Lambertville Elks, the American Legion Toscanni Post 120, VFW and the Knights of Columbus, all in Lambertville.
   He served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater and the South Pacific, receiving the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for valor.
   Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Larry Peters of Deltona, Fla., and Christi and Mickey Corpora of Palmer Township, Pa.; and four sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronald and Julie DiSalvi of Lambertville, Lawrence and Sharon DiSalvi of Buckingham, Pa., Randall of Lambertville and Dino of Pittstown, N.J.; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Anne DiSalvi of Lambertville; eight grandchildren, Michael and his wife, Robin, Christopher, Shelley, Anthony, Joseph, Vincent, Nicholas and Erica; four great-grandchildren, Emily, Jenna, Brian, Anthony; and several nieces and nephews.
   He was predeceased by three brothers, Richard, Roland and Victor, and two sisters, Rose and Perrinda.
   A Mass of Christian Burial was held at the church Wednesday. Burial was private.
   Arrangements were under the direction of the Garefino Funeral Home, Lambertville.
Susan Czarny

   SOLEBURY — Susan Pearson Czarny, 50, of Solebury Township died Friday, April 22, at home.
   Born in Doylestown, Mrs. Czarny lived most of her life in Lambertville before moving to Solebury two years ago.
   She was an administrative assistant with the State of New Jersey’s Department of Transportation in Trenton. She had worked for the state for more than 30 years.
   She also worked as a bartender at the Lambertville Moose Lodge.
   She was the daughter of the late Edward and Virginia Cramer Pearson.
   She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Janice Pearson of West Amwell; her sister and brother-in-law, Terry and Bruce Rock of Lambertville; her nieces, Judy Rolle of Trenton, Mandy Knechel of Lambertville and Meghan Pearson of West Amwell; her nephew, Nick Knechel of Lambertville; and her great-nephew, Sean Rolle, and her great-niece, Breanna Rolle, both of Trenton.
   Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, Lambertville, with the Rev. Philip Olson of the First Presbyterian Church of Lambertville officiating. Burial followed at Holcombe-Riverview Cemetery, Delaware Township.

Joseph Carina III

   EAST AMWELL — Joseph John Carina III, 52, of East Amwell Township died Sunday, April 24, at home.
   Born in Camden, he was the son of Joseph John Carina II and Anna Patroncino Carina of Maple Shade, N.J.
   He was the director of budget and planning for Educational Testing Services, Princeton, where he was employed for more than 25 years.
   He was a graduate of Catawba College in North Carolina.
   Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Eloise Kurylo Carina; two daughters, Heather Scheuer of Bethlehem Township, N.J., and Roxanne Murray of Putney, Vt.; a son, Aaron Murray of East Amwell Township; a brother, Robert Carina of Hillsborough, N.J.; two sisters, Caroline O’Malley and Marie Dubreuil, both of Marlton, N.J.; and three grandchildren.
   Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, Flemington. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Ringoes.
