Dave Adam knew coming into the season that his Northern Burlington County Regional High School girls’ varsity lacrosse would contend for a playoff spot if it could win most of its "toss up" games.
So when his club dropped a tough 3-2 decision to New Egypt a couple of weeks ago, it automatically turned last Wednesday’s (April 20) game at Rancocas valley into a "must" win.
Adams’ Greyhounds didn’t disappoint. They jumped on RV early and cruised to a 10-7 triumph.
"We thought we could win. It wasn’t as close as the (final) score showed. We were up 9-5," said Adam.
"We had a lot of shots (28). We took some bad shots. And we hit the cross bar like seven times."
Nonetheless, 10 of the Greyhounds’ shots finished with happy endings. NBC scoring machine Justine Titko tossed in three goals and assisted on two others.
Alyna Morris (two goals), Amanda Lowe (one goal), Nikole Such (one goal), Alyssa Pigott (one goal), Devi Hensch (one goal) and Danielle Chuba (one goal) also tallied for the victors.
"Justine Titko, obviously, has been strong. Alyna Morris really showed up (versus RV)," said Adam.
"They’re starting to play together as a team."
Adam has been similarly impressed with the remarkable hustle of Nikole Such in the midfield. Meanwhile, Ashley Melton, Chelsea Stevenson, Rose Robeson and Jaime Ireland have anchored a defense which gets better with each passing game.
"Our defense is really working well together," remarked Adam, who now sees his "D" as a polished, fluid, cohesive unit.
Meanwhile Amanda MaGee, the team’s goalie, is very consistent. She made five saves in the Rancocas Valley game.
At 4-4, though, NBC has little margin for error. It needs to keep on winning.
"We have eight games left before the cutoff. We have to win a couple of close ones," said Adam, whose club is more focused than ever.
NBC was scheduled at Cinnaminson yesterday (Wednesday). It is scheduled at Moorestown on Friday.
