South River Detective John McKenna is pictured with the Police Department’s DARE car, which recently was named New Jersey’s best DARE vehicle in the patrol category during an event sponsored by the New Jersey DARE Officers Association and DARE New Jersey in Atlantic City. The 1997 Ford Crown Victoria is a former South River patrol car that was rebuilt with donations. The car, still a functioning patrol vehicle, is taken to community policing events. “We’re proud of it, especially since we’re a smaller community,” McKenna said of the recognition.
