April 28

• “Hometown Savings 2005” Book Sale, sponsored by the Friends of the Spotswood Public Library, 548 Main St. Books contain discount coupons from many local retailers and large, chain merchants in Spotswood, East Brunswick, South River, Milltown, Monroe, Old Bridge. Coupons expire Dec. 31. Cost is $18. All proceeds benefit the Friends and will be used to support library programs and services. To order, call the library at (732) 251-1515.

• Cell phone collection and empty inkjet or laser computer cartridge collection, both sponsored by the Spotswood High School Band. Old cell phones will be sent to women’s shelters and to troops stationed overseas. Phones need not be in working condition or have chargers or batteries. Collection boxes are located at the high school, Memorial School and KrisKell Creations Hair Salon, all Summerhill Road; Schoenly School, Kane Avenue; the Spotswood Public Library, Spotswood Post Office and Kearny Bank, all Main Street. The band continues to participate in a Kash for Kids fund-raising program that pays the group $2 for each empty inkjet or laser computer cartridge collected. • Bikers Run, to benefit Sayreville Brain Injured Children, noon, at Bello’s Sports Pub, Route 535, Parlin section of Sayreville. Rain date: May 1. Riders travel to Frenchtown and back along the Delaware River; vendors, music and more at Bello’s upon their return. Donation for drivers is $20 in advance, $25 on event day; passengers, $10. Drivers receive free T-shirt. All proceeds go to Sayreville Association for Brain Injured Children. Individuals not interested in riding or attending may donate $25 and receive a free T-shirt. Dozens of varieties of tomatoes, including the Rutgers tomato and other heirloom varieties; rare herbs; Oritani and other bell peppers; new and exotic varieties of hot peppers.
