MONTGOMERY — The district’s assistant superintendent for instruction, Christopher Manno, has announced his resignation.
Mr. Manno will depart the township to accept the superintendent position for the Burlington Township School District in Burlington County.
His resignation is effective June 30.
"During the past seven years, I have been blessed with opportunities to work with high-caliber people who care deeply about education and children," Mr. Manno said in a letter read aloud by Board of Education President Rich Specht during Tuesday’s meeting.
"I look forward to applying the knowledge and skills that I’ve gained in Montgomery to make a difference in the lives of children in the Burlington Township community," Mr. Manno said in the letter.
Superintendent Stuart Schnur said that while he was sorry Mr. Manno is leaving, he applauds the new opportunity.
"His leaving is a tremendous loss to our district," Dr. Schnur said. "He has provided tremendous direction and support to the instructional program."
Mr. Manno has spent four of his seven years in the district as the assistant superintendent for instruction. Prior to that, he was the director of curriculum for mathematics and science, Dr. Schnur said.
Dr. Schnur said Mr. Manno managed the instructional program in "an unbelievably positive and dynamic manner."
In his letter of resignation, Mr. Manno thanked his colleagues for "their steadfast commitment to implementing exemplary, research-based curricular programs. This has been our mission and passion for the children of Montgomery schools."
Mr. Manno also recognized the board: "I feel particularly fortunate to have worked with a Board of Education comprised of bright, caring individuals with vision and leadership strength.
"Finally, and importantly, I’ve had the opportunity to work under and be mentored by a truly outstanding superintendent of schools, Dr. Stuart Schnur," the letter continued. "His guidance, counsel and example have had a significant impact on my career as an educational leader."
Mr. Manno ended his letter by saying, "My appreciation and fond memories of the people of Montgomery cannot be understated."
On behalf of the board, Mr. Specht thanked Mr. Manno for his service to the district.
