Agnes A. Corey



   LITTLE EGG HARBOR — Agnes A. Corey, 77, died April 22 at Southern Ocean County Hospital.
   She was born in Jersey City, resided in Jamesburg, moving here 15 years ago.
   Ms. Corey was retired from McGraw-Hill in East Windsor.
   She was a member of St. Theresa’s Church, Tuckerton, and on the editorial committee for Mystic Shores. She was an active member of the Mystic Shores Community.
   Predeceased by her sister, Claire Witte, and her brother, George Klink, she is survived by sons Gerard J., Little Egg Harbor, and Kevin H and his wife, Penelope, of East Windsor; a daughter, Judy Nicholais, Hamilton; grandchildren, Stacey Corey, Amanda, Jason, Jeffrey H., Kathleen and David; and several nieces and nephews.
   Arrangements are under the direction of the Wood Funeral Home, Tuckerton.
   Mass of Christian Burial was said at St. Theresa’s Church, Tuckerton.
   Burial followed at Fernwood Cemetery, Jamesburg.

Walter Curtis Johnson



   HIGHTSTOWN — Walter Curtis Johnson, the Arthur LeGrand Doty professor of electrical engineering, emeritus at Princeton University, died April 22.
   Professor Johnson, an alumnus of Pennsylvania State University, joined the faculty of Princeton University in 1937, where he served as chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering for 15 years, retiring in 1981. In 1948 he designed the original doctoral program in electrical engineering.
   He also spearheaded the modernization of the engineering curriculum after World War II, the development of the Princeton engineering physics program initiated in 1958, Princeton’s first program of teaching and research in computer science, and the development of Princeton’s highly successful program in electronic materials and devices.
   In 1955 he was made a fellow of the Institute of Radio Engineers. In 1963 he was appointed to the Arthur Le Grand Doty chair of electrical engineering. In 1967 he was given an award for excellence in engineering education by the American Society for Engineering Education, and he was a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
   The Walter Curtis Johnson Prize for Excellence in Teaching was established by the department in his honor in 1986. He was a member of the Old Guard, Nassau Club, Springdale Golf Club, and Rotary Club.
   He was the son of David C. Johnson and Mary Ely Johnson of Weikert, Pa., and husband of Caroline Shirk Johnson, who predeceased him. Professor Johnson is survived by three sons, W. Curtis Johnson of Corvallis, Ore., William S. Johnson of Collegedale, Tenn., and David E. Johnson of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.; and by six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Charles M. Jones Jr.



   TITUSVILLE — Charles M. Jones Jr., 93, died April 19 at the Care One Nursing Home in Ewing. Born in Titusville, he was a lifelong area resident.
   He retired from the New Jersey Department of Transportation in Ewing. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Titusville, a member emeritus of the Union Fire and Rescue Squad. He was a charter member of the Hopewell Valley Lions Club, and a life member of the Pleasant Valley Vigilant Association.
   Son of the late Charles M. Sr. and Jennie Martin Jones, husband of the late Margaret E. Jones, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth M. and Charles J. Hunter of Hightstown.
   Funeral services were held Monday at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, 2560 Pennington Road, Pennington with the Rev. Timothy Slemmons, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Titusville, officiating. Burial was in Harbourton Cemetery, Harbourton.

Joseph J. Lala



   EAST WINDSOR — Joseph J. Lala, 78, died April 21 in the Medical Center at Princeton.
   Born in the Bronx, N.Y., Mr. Lala had resided in Yonkers, N.Y. and Hightstown, before moving to East Windsor many years ago.
   A graduate of New York University with his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering, Mr. Lala worked as a scientist for several years at the university before joining several of the country’s largest aeronautical firms. He retired in 1996 after more than 40 years as an engineer. He also studied at the Zarephath Bible Seminary and Heritage Bible Institute.
   Mr. Lala was an advocate for nutrition and natural foods. He also was very knowledgeable about religion.
   He was a member and a trustee of the Gospel Mission Corps, Hightstown, a trustee of the Fresh Ponds Cemetery Association, East Brunswick, a member of the International Organization of Good Templars, an honorary member of the WCTU and an associate member of the Order of St. Luke the Physician.
   Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Dominick and Nancy Lala of Somers, N.Y.; his sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Sal Rappa of Freehold; several nieces and nephews; and his church family in the Gospel Mission Chapels.
   Funeral services were held Sunday at the Crabiel Memorial Funeral Home, 202 Stockton St., Hightstown with the Rev. Robert and Sandra Turton and other workers officiating.
   A graveside service and interment took place Monday at Fresh Ponds Chapel Cemetery, Fresh Ponds Road and Davidson’s Mill Roads, South Brunswick.

Ralph E. Osborne



   HIGHTSTOWN — Ralph E. Osborne, 92, died April 21 in the University Medical Center at Princeton.
   Born in Litchfield, Conn., Mr. Osborne was raised in Trenton, lived in Ewing for 20 years, West Windsor for 44 years and for the last three years in Meadow Lakes, Hightstown.
   In 1977, Mr. Osborne retired from Princeton University after 39 years. He served as assistant to the director of Forrestal Research Center.
   Husband of the late Lorraine M. Osborne, he is survived by three sons, Jeffrey Osborne of Flemington, Daniel Osborne of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Hugh Osborne of Holland, Pa.; a sister, Dorothy Willett of Grass Valley, Calif.; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter and great-grandson.
   Funeral arrangements were private, and under the direction of The Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, Princeton.
Bartella (Pat) Chance Patterson



   LAWRENCE — Bartella (Pat) Chance Patterson, 76, died Tuesday at Tandem Health Care Center in Lawrence.
   Ms. Patterson was a lifelong Hightstown resident. She had worked for Cedar Hill Cemetery for 25 years and retired from Harrison Conference Services located at Merrill Lynch-Plainsboro after 10 years of service working for her daughter, Doris.
   Ms. Patterson loved flowers, animals and country music.
   Daughter of the late Harry W. and Anna May Bowker Chance, wife of the late Russell Stanley Patterson Sr., she is survived by her lifelong companion, John Edward Garron; three sons, Russell Stanley Patterson Jr. and daughter-in-law, Carol of St. Augustine, Fla., Robert Daniel Patterson and Richard Paul Patterson, both of Hightstown; three daughters, Judith May Patterson of Atlantic County, Doris Marie Hartpence and son-in-law, Stuart N. Hartpence III of Yardville, Shirley Lorraine Hibbert and son-in-law, Philip Hibbert of Loxahatchee, Fla.; two sisters, Ruth Butch and Betty Robbins; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her dog Happy.
   Relatives and friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Glackin/Saul Funeral Home, 136 Morrison Ave., Hightstown.
   Cremation will be private.

Clyde ‘Junie’ Schwear Jr.



   NEW SHARON — Clyde "Junie" Schwear Jr., 71, died April 22 in St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton.
   Born in Womelsdorf, Pa., Mr. Schwear had been a lifelong resident of New Sharon.
   He retired from the New Jersey Turnpike Authority after 35 years of service and he enjoyed woodworking, animals, gardening and loved and adored his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
   Son of the late Clyde W. and Marguerite (Mentzer) Schwear and brother of the late Ronald Schwear, he is survived by his wife, Mary L. Stearle Schwear; five daughters, Marguerite Horton and her husband, Joseph, of Wrightstown, Linda Jackson of Bordentown, Dorothy Politis of Asbury Park, Darlene Hughes of Brick and Donna Schwear of Neptune; three sons, Michael D. Stearle and his wife, Debbie, of Trenton, Gene Jackson and his wife, Jill, of Hamilton and Daniel Jackson of Jackson; two sisters, Mildred and Donald Sawyer of Dayton, Gloria and Robert Bannon of Blackwood; five brothers, Donald Schwear of Dushore, Pa., David and Linda Schwear of Florence, Gerald and Mary P. Schwear of Dayton, Robert and Mary Schwear of East Windsor and Dennis Schwear of Kendall Park; his mother-in-law, Mary L. Stearle; 16 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
   A funeral service was held Thursday at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square.
   Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton.
