A "Peace Train" will begin in Trenton and stop in Princeton Junction on its way to New York on Sunday, the eve of a major United Nations review of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.
A pre-boarding rally will be at the Princeton Dinky station on University Place at 12:15 p.m. with Princeton Borough Mayor Joseph O’Neill speaking.
Mayor O’Neill, as well as Trenton Mayor Douglas Palmer, Lawrence Mayor Pam Mount, West Windsor Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh and Princeton Township Mayor Phyllis Marchand, have signed a call to initiate negotiations for global abolition of nuclear weapons, according to the sponsoring Coalition for Peace Action.
Once in New York, Peace Train riders will go to Heckscher Ballfields in Central Park for a 2 p.m. Rally Against the Iraq War and for Nuclear Disarmament.
Those attending the Princeton rally who intend to travel to New York are responsible for purchasing tickets and boarding at about 12:35 p.m.
Those attending in New York are expected to create the largest-in-history human peace symbol, which will be photographed from a satellite and beamed to all major news media. The overall theme is "No War, No Nukes."
