EAST WINDSOR Two road construction projects will begin next month and may cause inconveniences but should not result in any street closures, a township official said Monday.
The Township Council awarded contracts April 19 totaling $472,308.35 to DeFino Contracting Company of Cliffwood Beach to construct the Lanning Boulevard Linkage Road, and to repave a section of Dutch Neck Road.
Construction of the Lanning Boulevard Linkage Road, which will take between three and six months, will start in May and cost about $233,530, Mayor Janice Mironov said.
The Dutch Neck Road project, which involves repaving a half-mile section of the road between Hickory Corner Road and Dorchester Drive, will start May 10 and last for four to six weeks, the mayor said.
The 800-foot Lanning Boulevard Linkage Road will run parallel to Route 571 from Lanning Boulevard to Route 130, ending next to the ShopRite Garden Center.
Lanes may be shifted along Dutch Neck Road, Mayor Mironov said, but both roads will remain open during the construction.
"There likely will be some inconvenience," Mayor Mironov said, "and we ask people’s patience while we make improvements."
The road will give drivers a link between the Windsor Towne Plaza and the East Windsor Village shopping center, the mayor said.
"It’s certainly a heavily used area of the town," Mayor Mironov said. "We believe the construction of this roadway linkage will be a great benefit in relieving some of that pressure and facilitating some of that traffic on (Route) 571."
Construction should have little impact on the business that line Route 571, the mayor said, because the road runs behind their sites. Business owners along the road will be able to access the road from behind their properties.
Developer funds will pay for the Lanning Boulevard Linkage Road, Mayor Mironov said. The Dutch Neck Road project will be funded using a $175,000 grant from the Department of Transportation and capital funds.
