MARLBORO — The Township Council passed a resolution on April 21 consenting to Mayor Robert Kleinberg’s appointments of six people to the Ethical Standards Board.
The appointees for five-year terms are Michael Cali and Stanley Rosen. Rabbi Donald Weber was appointed for a four-year term and Gail Becker, Ibrahim Naboulsi and Maxine Perlman were appointed for three-year terms.
A code of ethics ordinance that was adopted by the Township Council in February states that the local government ethics law authorizes a municipality to establish a municipal ethics board, which has the responsibility of enforcing the ethics law at the local level.
According to the ordinance, the ethics law establishes the standards of ethical conduct and financial disclosure requirements for local government officials and employees.
Council members Patricia Morelli, James Mione and Jeff Cantor said they appreciated that the Ethical Standards Board will be a well-balanced panel with members from different political parties, races, genders and backgrounds.
Kleinberg said he wanted to have members who would represent the diversity of Marlboro and who were a balance of Democrats, Republicans and independents.
According to the resolution, the members of the board were chosen by “virtue of their known and consistent reputation for integrity and their knowledge of local government affairs.”
As of last week the people who had been appointed to the Ethical Standards Board were meeting with municipal representatives to discuss how the board will work and what their responsibilities will be.
