Martha B. Marczyk Yatsko
Mrs. Yatsko, 70, of the Belford section of Middletown, died April 30 at home. Born in Nesquehoning, Pa., she had been a resident of Belford for the past 45 years. Mrs. Yatsko was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank Marczyk and Joseph Marczyk, and a sister, Helen Porembo. Mrs. Yatsko is survived by her husband of 46 years, Joseph Yatsko; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Cheryl Yatsko Jr. of Middletown; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Ron Wassel of Sykesville, Md.; three sisters, Mary Sabo of Bethlehem, Pa., Violet Marczyk of Nesquehoning, and Frances Hastings of Allentown, Pa.; a brother, John Marczyk of Nesquehoning; and three grandchildren. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated May 4 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, is in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn G. Engemann
Mrs. Engemann, 72, of Atlantic Highlands, died April 20 at home. Born in Newark, she resided in the Belford section of Middletown prior to moving to Atlantic Highlands five years ago. She was a homemaker, and an original founder of the girl’s division of the Middletown Youth Athletic Association. She was a communicant of, and elder and deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Middletown, where she also taught Sunday school teacher for several years. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Carl Engemann of Atlantic Highlands; a son and daughter-in-law, James C. and Diane Engemann of Middletown; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Lawrence Wiltbank, and Carol and Daniel, all of Belford, and Gail and Gary Loeser of Ocean Township; a sister, Dorothy H. Tobia of Mantaloking Shores; and nine grandchildren. A funeral service was at Westminster Church. Burial was at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
Clementine Ippolito
Mrs. Ippolito, 88, of Tinton Falls, died April 20 at Renaissance Gardens at Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls. Born in Jersey City, she resided in Middletown for 22 years prior to moving to Tinton Falls. She was a licensed practical nurse at Jersey City Medical Center for 20 years, retiring in 1977. She enjoyed time with her family, and cooking. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Anthony Ippolito. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Robert Blohm of Toms River, and Judy and Tony Salemi of Middletown; two sisters, Clara Papa of Florida, and Catherine Aline of Berkeley Township; and two grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft section of Middletown. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Arrangements were by Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown.
Maria Teresa Gilpin
Mrs. Gilpin, 48, of Manalapan, died April 21 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Bogotá, Colombia, she resided in Manalapan the past 25 yeas. She was a teller at Sovereign Bank, Manalapan, the past two years. Prior to that, she was an inventory planner at Siemen’s Medical Systems, Monroe Township. She was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan. She is survived by her husband, John; two sons, Shawn and Jordan, both at home; her mother, Maria Teresa Rodriguez of Hazlet; three brothers, Wilson Contreras of North Brunswick, Oscar Contreras of Sayreville, and William Contreras of Old Bridge; three sisters, Elsa Rodriguez of South River, Lucy Contreras of Sayreville, and Jacquelyn Contreras or Colombia. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Thomas More Church. Arrangements were by Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan.
Angelo A. Tomasello
Mr. Tomasello, 78, of Whiting, died April 20 at St. Barnabas Hospice, Long Branch. Born in Matawan, he was a lifelong resident prior to moving to Whiting nine years ago. He was a self-employed ceramic tile contractor at Tomasello Brothers, Matawan, retiring in 1995. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an assistant with Boy Scout Troop 232, Matawan. He was a past member of St. Joseph’s Knights of Columbus, Keyport, and the Matawan Italian Club. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathryn Borowsky Tomasello of Whiting; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Donna Tomasello of Manalapan, Anthony Tomasello of Wall, and John and Fran Tomasello of Marlboro; two daughters and sons-in-law, Maryann and Arnold Zimmerman of Ocean, and Diane and Chet Scalzo of Matawan; three brothers, Humbert Tomasello of Florida, Victor Tomasello of Matawan, and Vincent Tomasello of Connecticut; a sister, Carmela Dzwil of Matawan; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport, with interment at the church’s cemetery. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Marc R. Sullivan
Mr. Sullivan, 30, of Aberdeen, died April 22 in New York City. Born in Red Bank, he resided in Aberdeen several years. He was a writer, and graduate of Columbia University, New York City. He enjoyed reading, the outdoors, and poetry, and was fluent in French. He is survived by his father, Richard Sullivan; his mother, Barbara Sullivan; two brothers, Chad and Bart; a sister, Elan; a sister-in-law, Jennifer; one nephew; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Rose Juliano Liegel
Mrs. Liegel, 86, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, died April 25 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Union, she resided there prior to moving to Cliffwood Beach 46 years ago. She was a homemaker, and also ran a home-based toy demonstration business several years. She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Laurence Harbor. She was a member of the Aberdeen Township Seniors, St. Joseph’s Senior Citizens, Keyport, and St. Catherine’s Golden Achievers, North Middletown. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Liegel Sr. in 1988; and a son, Harry “Buster” Liegel in 1984. She is survived by two sons, Frank “Sonny” Liegel Jr. and Kenneth Liegel, both Cliffwood Beach; a daughter, Patricia Liegel of Keyport; two sisters, Anna Ceres and Carmella Jack, both Union Beach; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Lawrence Church. Interment was at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet. Arrangements ere by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Harry J. Devenney
Mr. Devenney, 81, of Hazlet, died April 28 at St. Barnabas Hospice, Long Branch. He was born in New York City, where resided before moving to Hazlet 48 years ago. Mr. Devenney was a commercial artist at RCA, Fort Monmouth, Eatontown, retiring in 1989. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4303, Hazlet. Mr. Devenney was predeceased by his wife, Ann, in 1997; a son, Dennis Devenney, in 2002; and a grandson, Adam Mescal, in 1995. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Susan Devenney of Warren Township; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia and Philip Possumato of Rockledge, Fla., Geraldine and Larry Mescal of Manchester, and Jacqueline Devenney of Edison; and seven grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Benedict’s Church, followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Erika Neumann McLaughlin
Mrs. McLaughlin, 76, of the Belford section of Middletown, died April 30 at home. Born in Germany, she resided in Keyport before moving to Belford 20 years ago. Mrs. McLaughlin was a machine operator at Echo Labs, Avenel section of Woodbridge, retiring in 1986. She was also employed at Lily Tulip, Holmdel, for several years. Mrs. McLaughlin is survived by her husband of 43 years, Joseph McLaughlin; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
