Children’s programs, trips offered by parks

  • The Monmouth County Park System will offer “Claude Monet Painting Class for Children” ages 6-11 May 16 from 4:15-6:15 p.m. Cost is $23 and children will create original paintings from the Monet painting “Woman with Umbrella Turned to the Right.”
  • A trip to the Cape May Zoo for older adults will be May 17 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Cost is $47 for mini-bus transportation, admission, and a Park System leader. “Come Play with Clay” will be May 18 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Cost is $30 for the workshop that will cover translucent effects.

    “Spanish Hand Building Technique” will be offered May 26 and 27 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Visiting artist Louis Mendez will teach participants how to construct self-supporting hollow-built forms without a wheel or armature. Cost is $190. “White Mountain Teen Odyssey” for teens ages 14-17 will be July 25-30 at the High Huts in the White Mountains, New Hampshire. Cost is $625 which covers transportation, and meals. Attendees will hike 6-plus miles each day with a 25-pound pack, and spend evenings at the huts.

    A mandatory information session for participants and parents/legal guardians will be July 6 from 6-7:30 p.m. All the above are at or will depart Thompson Park, 805 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown.

    “Owl Hoots” for children ages 4-6, and parents, will be May 22 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Holmdel Park, Longstreet Road. Cost is $4 per person for the event consisting of stories about night owls, and the chance to examine an owl pellet. Preregistration is required for the above.
