Morgan allows total of hit in pair of NBC softball wins

When you’re one of the best softball team in the state, even 10-0 wins like the one the Northern Burlington County Regional High School girls’ varsity softball team posted at home versus Moorestown last Thursday don’t raise any eyebrows.
"Against teams like Moorestown, I expect that," said NBC Coach Brian Wolverton.
"We didn’t do a whole lot of hitting."
Neither did the Quakers who were held hitless against Chelsey Morgan, who fanned 11 batters during her five-inning complete game victory.
When Wolverton says his team didn’t do "a whole lot of hitting" he means it "only" had nine hits.
One was a double by Kelly Miller. Stef Poedubicky drove in three runs. Kelly Lukacs had two RBI and Lyndsay Mouse knocked in a run.
On Tuesday, NBC beat Delran, 4-2, at home. However, it was not the easy game everyone expected.
"We all took them (the Bears) a little too lightly," said Wolverton.
Morgan surrendered a two-run double in the top of the first inning and then didn’t allow a hit the rest of the way.
NBC trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the fifth when Jaimie Walton walked and was chased home by shortstop Sammy Garofalo’s RBI double. Michelle Reed drove in Garofalo with a RBI single to tie the score (2-2). In the sixth, NBC went ahead for good when Morgan drove in Lyndsay Mouse (HBP) who had moved to second on a Poedubicky sacrifice, with a RBI double. Shannon Pennock, running for Morgan, later scored an insurance run on Kelly Lukacs’ single.
NBC (17-1) was scheduled to have hosted Willingboro yesterday (Wednesday). On Friday NBC has another huge game scheduled at Rancocas Valley. Then on Saturday and Sunday NBC is scheduled to compete in the Hammonton Tournament. NBC is scheduled at Bordentown on Monday.

The playoff bound Bordentown Regional High School girls’ varsity softball tam clubbed Westampton Tech, 8-2, at Bordentown on Monday.
Reannon Trogdon (5-1) picked up the win with an excellent 12-strikeout four-hitter. She allowed just one earned run,
"Reannon Trogdon pitched a nice game. She only had one walk," noted Bordentown Coach Michele Brennan.
Trogdon, however, received plenty of support from the Scotties’ lineup, which pounded out 13 hits. Megan Temple went 4-for-4 with two triples and two RBI. Meghan McDonald also was very productive at the plate.
"McDonald had two standup doubles. One was a ground-rule double over the center field fence," Brennan remarked.
Taryn Lynch doubled and drove in three runs. And even when she made outs she advanced the runners, which Brennan loved.
Kara Lynch, meanwhile, tripled and singled. Kia Perry had a two-base hit and knocked in a run. Sam Hardy and Hillary Allen also had one RBI each in the contest.
On Monday, Bordentown dropped a tough 1-0 decision at McCorristin. Allen (4-3) was the hard-luck loser. She only surrendered four hits in the contest and walked only one while whiffing three batters.
McCorristin manufactured a run in the bottom of the sixth to win it.
   K. Lynch’s leadoff single in the first was Bordentown’s only official hit of the contest. The Scotties did have other base runners on walks and errors.
The Scotties (9-4) are scheduled to play a double header versus Burlington City at Joe Lawrence Park on Friday. Bordentown is scheduled to host NBC on Monday.

The Florence Township Memorial High School girls’ varsity softball squad went out and shut down a good McCorristin team, 5-0, in an away game last Thursday. The Flashes then pounded Pemberton, 19-0, on Monday at home.
Unfortunately, with the Freedom Division title possibly on the line, New Egypt defeated Florence, 4-0, in a rare night game in front of a huge crowd at Florence on Tuesday night.
"We didn’t play as good a game as we normally play," said Florence Coach George Chwastyk following the loss to New Egypt.
"We probably had seven or eight hits, but we couldn’t string them together."
Nevertheless Melissa Mehrer pitched her heart out for the Flashes.
"She probably pitched the best game she’s pitched all season," said Chwastyk of his sophomore star, who struck out nine and allowed no earned runs. She also doubled in the contest.
Mehrer had tossed a no-hitter versus Pemberton at Florence the day before (Monday).
Pemberton had "double trouble" against Florence as Mehrer (three RBI), Kristin Garganio (two RBI), Kim Ostrander (two RBI), Stephanie Bulleck (two RBI) and Amber Tolifero (RBI) all ripped doubles for the Flashes in the easy win. Ashley Onori also knocked in a run.
Florence’s big victory over McCorristin last Thursday was highlighted by a fourth-inning homer by Garganio. Amber Tolifero also went 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI. Onori had an extra base hit and a RBI. And Jackie Miller drove in two of Florence’s runs.
"We hit the ball very well," said Chwastyk.
All Mehrer did was strike out 10 and shutout a very good team.
Florence (8-3) is scheduled at Medford Tech today (Thursday). Due to last Saturday’s rain, the Hammonton Tournament will be held both this Saturday and Sunday. Florence will be at Delran Monday and home for Maple Shade on Tuesday.
