Thomas B. Harvey of Princeton, a longtime board member of the Planned Parenthood Association of Mercer Area (PPAMA), has been named as the association’s 2005 Sanger Circle Award recipient.
The Sanger Circle Award is given to honor supporters who have made significant contributions to the advancement of family planning. This year’s award presentation will take place Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Princeton in West Windsor.
Mr. Harvey served as president of the PPAMA’s board of directors from 2001 through 2003 and has been a director since 1994. Under his leadership, PPAMA saw an increase in medical services, higher patient numbers, more efficient organizational systems, and increased board effectiveness.
Mr. Harvey’s strong leadership and unyielding support have been critical to the growth of PPAMA.
According to Darrah Johnson, PPAMA’s president and CEO, "Tom has a special knack to make staff, board and volunteers feel as if they are unique and special. He provides a special kind of compassion and understanding that is inspiring to other people, from board to staff. Tom displays a significant commitment to reproductive health care and education and works tirelessly for the rights of women and their families in Mercer County."
In addition to his longstanding commitment to Planned Parenthood, Mr. Harvey is a trustee of the Alfred and Mary Douty Foundation, the Princeton Area Community Foundation, the New Jersey Conservation Foundation, and Princeton Day School.
Mr. Harvey is the 10th recipient of the Sanger Circle Award. The award was established by PPAMA’s board in 1984, honoring Margaret Sanger, a family planning pioneer.
