NORTH BRUNSWICK — Bring out the bug spray.
The Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services (DPRCS) will hold its Community Camp Out overnight on Saturday, June 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. at Sabella Park on Cozzens Lane.
“This is a great family event. We try to foster and encourage a community day,” said DPRCS Director Lou Ann Benson.
The camp out will be held rain or shine. Participants must bring their own tents and food. There will be light refreshments.
“There will be free popcorn and s’mores on the grill before bedtime,” Benson said.
Activities include hayrides, craft activities, games and a movie.
“Last year we had a water balloon toss, tug-of-war and a relay race,” she said.
Park rangers will be patrolling throughout the night and the police will be alerted, according to Benson.
“There will also be staff staying on for supervision. Last year even the mayor [Francis “Mac” Womack] and his family camped out in a trailer,” she said.
Tickets cost $5 per person. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Smoking and alcohol are not permitted.
“I would love to see the entire park filled with our residents having a good time,” Benson said. “Last year I didn’t get any sleep. As people were breaking down their tents I did my morning jog.”
Residents are encouraged to support the North Brunswick Food Bank by bringing a donation of one canned item.
Registration forms can be picked up at the DPRCS at 710 Hermann Road. For more information, please call (732) 247-0922, ext. 478.
