Irene Daly Farley of Princeton died Tuesday at home, eight days after the death of her husband, Edward R. Farley Jr. She was 82.
Born in Manhattan, she moved with her husband to Princeton in the late 1950s to raise her family.
She worked in public relations at a New York advertising agency, but following her marriage and move to Princeton focused on raising her family and community service.
She became involved with the Association of North Princeton Developmental Center in Montgomery Township and was a past president. She was also founding chairman of "Christmas in Princeton," a benefit house tour which has become a Christmas season tradition in the Princeton area.
She also became involved with the University Medical Center at Princeton as general chairman of the hospital’s two major annual fundraisers, the June Fete and Christmas Boutique. She was also on the founding committee for the Festival of Trees, a Princeton University benefit for Blairstown Educational Center. She is a former president of Friends of Princeton Public Library and is also listed in "Who’s Who of American Women."
She also served as chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of Eden Institute, chairwoman of the board’s Human Resources Committee, and chairwoman of the Eden Institute Foundation Operating Committee. She also was involved in planning and implementation of several Eden fundraising events.
In 1991, she received the Gerald B. Lambert Community Service Award for her efforts to make life better for those living in the Princeton area.
In 1999, the Edward R. and Irene D. Farley community Stewardship Award was established to honor and recognize individuals who, like the Farleys, have demonstrated exemplary volunteerism and stewardship for the community. The Farleys were the first to receive the award in 1999 and chose the Princeton Chapter of the American Red Cross as the cash recipient.
During the latter part of her life she maintained her positive outlook despite suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
Wife of the late Edward Raymond Farley Jr., mother of the late Thomas Joyce Farley, she is survived by daughters and son-in-law Jane and Thomas von Oehsen of Princeton and Nancy Jarrell of Tucson, Ariz.; son and daughter-in-law Edward R. III and Carolyn K. Farley of Sarasota, Fla.; and grandchildren Lacey J. Jarrell of Tucson, Ariz., William R. Jarrell IV of Boulder, Colo., and Thomas W. Jr., William M. and Alexander C. von Oehsen, all of Princeton.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Thomas Aquinas Institute, Princeton. Following Mass, family and friends are invited to a reception at The Present Day Club of Princeton.
Viewing will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton.

Longtime Princeton resident
Agnes Baldino Pilato of Princeton died Tuesday at home. She was 95.
Born in Princeton, she grew up in Ischia, Italy, and returned to Princeton in 1938, where she lived for the rest of her life.
A member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, she enjoyed cooking and being a homemaker for her family.
Wife of the late Giovanni G. Pilato, sister of the late John and Vincent Baldino and Francis Matarese, she is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Joseph A. and Linda Pilato of Allentown and Louis J. and Susan Pilato of North Port, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law Nancy J. and Robert Matthews of Robbinsville; sisters-in-law Maria and Angeline Baldino; grandchildren Debbie Millar, Wendy Spera, Ann Marie Pilato, Robert Pilato, Sherry Dudnick, Nancy Cozens, Mary Jo Haluska, and Michael and David Matthews; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews.
The funeral is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. today at Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. today at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 214 Nassau St., Princeton.
Burial will be in Princeton Cemetery.

Memorial service date changed
The date of the memorial service for Louise F. Sayen, who died Sunday, has been changed from today to Saturday.
It will be held 11 a.m. at Mountain Lakes House off Mountain Avenue, Princeton.

Bank vice president
LAWRENCE Brian Joseph Christie died Tuesday at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He was 45.
Born in Trenton, Mr. Christie was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Christie began his career in financial services with the Nassau Savings and Loan in Princeton and then went on to work with the Resolution Trust Corp., Chase Manhattan Bank in New York and Carnegie Bank in Princeton, which was later acquired by Sovereign Bank, where he was employed as a vice president of commercial lending.
He graduated from The Lawrenceville School in 1977 and went on to graduate from the University of New Hampshire.
He was a past member of the Montgomery Rotary Club.
Mr. Christie enjoyed snow-boarding, as well as fishing and boating on Long Beach Island.
He is survived by his wife Sally; son Quinn Elliott Christie; parents Dr. and Mrs. Alfred Christie of Pennington; brother Dr. A. Douglas Christie of Bloomsburg, Pa.; sisters and brothers-in-law Gretchen Christie of Princeton, Colleen and Martin Maloney of Frenchtown, Cathleen and Jeffrey Arch of Marriottsville, Md.; mother- and father-in-law Arthur and Nancy Goldberger of Haven Beach; aunt Betty Anne Sweeney of Pennington and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at St. James Church, 115 Delaware Ave., Pennington.
Calling hours will be 10 a.m. until time of Mass at the church.
Burial will be private.
