A fundraising benefit will be held Sunday for the Hillsborough family of seven that was left homeless after a fire destroyed its newly renovated New Amwell Road home in April .
The Mary Mother of God Youth Organization will be sponsoring sports activities to help the family from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Monsignor Liam A. Minogue Parish Center on South Triangle Road.
"This family has been involved in the Mary Mother of God Catholic Youth organization program for many, many years and have given so much of themselves to our organization," said Edward Gibney, a member of the Catholic Youth organization executive committee.
"We want very much to help them out during this very difficult time and have organized a fire-fundraiser," he said.
There will be several events taking place at the fundraiser, including a two-ball basketball competition, free-throw shooting contest, face-painting, balloon toss and many other games.
A donation of $5 per person is requested.
Participants can also purchase baked goods and enjoy hamburgers and hot dogs from the parish center’s kitchen .
All proceeds will benefit the Dembiec-Bisconti family.
Doug and Diane Dembiec and their five children are staying with family while trying to put their lives back together.
Dolores Bobrowsky, mother of the owner of the house, said the Amwell Road home started as a small ranch house Mr. Dembiec purchased in 1987, and had expanded over the years.
While some of the framework and construction was done professionally, much of the remodeling and renovating was done by Mr. and Ms. Dembiec.
"Now they lost everything," Ms. Bobrowsky said. "Doug lost his motorcycle and the kids lost their trophies and pictures. It’s all gone."
"How do you replace that?" she asked.
All the family’s children Cody, 10, and Brianna Dembiec, 13, and Brittany, 11, Brianna, 13, and Brett Bisconti, 16 attend Hillsborough public schools and participate in school sports, including baseball and football.
