MONTGOMERY The Board of Education on Tuesday unanimously approved the appointment of Timothy Stys to assume the position of school business administrator.
Beginning in August, Mr. Stys will take the place of long-time district school business administrator James Strimple, who has announced his retirement.
Mr. Stys will join the district from the North Plainfield School District, where he has served as business administrator since 2001. In addition, Mr. Stys has served as the business administrator at the Somerset County Vo-Tech High School District.
Mr. Stys, a certified public accountant, received a master’s degree in education administration from Rider University in 2000 and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Rutgers University in 1986.
Board President Rich Specht said Mr. Stys’ experience "combined with his enthusiasm for education make him a great addition to the district. He’ll continue Jim Strimple’s philosophy of managing our finances to serve kids."
His predecessor, Mr. Strimple, will leave the district after nearly 20 years of service. He began his post as school business administrator in October 1985.
During that time, he served as president of the Somerset County Association of School Business Officials and a trustee of the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials and served as president of that statewide organization.
Mr. Strimple has worked closely with the board and the Superintendent Stuart Schnur on the construction of the new Montgomery High School scheduled to open in the fall.
"Jim Strimple has been an outstanding business administrator for the Montgomery Township School District," Mr. Specht said. "He has always worked tirelessly to control costs so we’d have the money to invest in teachers and programs for our students."
Neither Dr. Schnur nor Mr. Strimple could be reached for comment.
