Princeton HealthCare System invites cancer survivors, their families and those affected by a friend or loved one’s cancer diagnosis to attend a special garden brunch on Sunday, June 5, to celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day.
Titled "Living in Full Bloom," the event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the garden on the grounds of Merwick Rehab Hospital & Nursing Care, located at 79 Bayard Lane (Route 206), Princeton. There is no charge, but participants must register by calling (888) 742-7496.
"Living in Full Bloom" is an opportunity for cancer survivors to celebrate life and share their experiences with others. Guests will arrive at the garden for appetizers and music. The program begins at 11:30 a.m. with inspirational talks by local cancer survivors and David B. Sokol, M.D., who is board-certified in hematology, medical oncology and internal medicine. A full brunch will immediately follow the presentations.
"National Cancer Survivors Day was founded as a way for cancer survivors to celebrate that there is life after a cancer diagnosis," Dr. Sokol said. "We wanted to create a special event that gives survivors a chance to meet with others in the community who have faced cancer and are living full lives."
Valet parking will be available the day of the event. A tent will ensure that the event will be held rain or shine. Restrooms and other facilities will accommodate guests of all abilities.
National Cancer Survivors Day is an annual celebration held in hundreds of communities throughout the United States, Canada and other participating countries, according to Franklin, Tenn.-based National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation. The foundation defines a "survivor" as anyone with a history of cancer from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life.
