To the editor:
I have prepared this letter in response to Harold V. Kane’s letter, published April 28, where he makes unfounded comparisons of Monroe Township and North Brunswick Township Boards of Education.
Like Mr. Kane, I have lived in North Brunswick, and in distinction to Mr. Kane, I served as a member of the North Brunswick Board of Education for 20 years and was elected president and vice president. I am very proud of my accomplishments on the North Brunswick Board of Education.
Like Mr. Kane, I moved to Rossmoor five years ago. During the last five years I have attended many of the public meetings of the Monroe Board of Education where Mr. Kane has been conspicuous by his absence.
It should be noted that last year Monroe issued 704 building permits. This is the highest number of municipal building permits in the state of New Jersey.
Mr. Kane questions the projection of 300 additional students in the Monroe school district, and the facts are that since 1998 the district has experienced at least 300 additional students per year. The latest demographic study projects that in the 2007-2008 school year the district will have 6,010 students.
In conclusion, I hold the analysis by Mr. Kane to be seriously flawed and unfair.
