The West Windsor Lions Club is sponsoring the seventh annual Renaissance Faire Festival on Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, May 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., in Mercer County Park, West Windsor.
Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 5 through 12. Children younger than 5 will be admitted free.
The Lions are promising old-fashioned merrymaking by roving bands of minstrels, playing old-fashioned instruments and dressed in beautiful costumes.
Knights in armor will be battling, dueling and fencing. Archery skills, using the English long bow, and thrown weapons, using axes and knives, will be demonstrated.
The fair will feature authentic medieval re-enactment organizations such as Markland Ltd., the Society for Creative Anachronism, Ye Olde Nottingham Players, La Commedia dell’Arte, and the Kingdom of Lucerne.
Garden State Storytellers will be on hand to entertain with Robin Hood and other medieval lore.
Additional special events this year will include The Sea Dogs, a pirate group; roaming entertainers; medieval jongleurs; pony rides; face painting; balloon animals; children’s games of skill, and more. A Maypole ceremony involving the children in attendance will take place several times during the day’s events.
Also, the fair will feature a blacksmith and many vendors of traditional different crafts, including costume clothing and weapons, and jewelry,
Refreshments will be available for every taste of the palate at the fair’s Food Court.
Proceeds of the fair will benefit charities, community needs, and the sight- and hearing-challenged.
The fair can be reached in Mercer County Park from Old Trenton Road (Route 535) and from Hughes Drive.
