The township is gearing up for the busy summer schedule of recreation programs, but some are hoping for more.
Sonya Martin urged the committee to consider more programs for seniors, such as a luau or senior prom, during last week’s Township Committee meeting.
"We are looking to add one or two senior programs," Committeeman Anthony Ferrera, liaison to the Recreation Commission, said.
A senior summer picnic will take place under the celebration tent by the municipal soccer field 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., June 1. The event will have catered food and entertainment, and will cost $15.
Mr. Ferrera said that he hopes to get feedback from seniors at the picnic as well as gathering information from local senior chapters to see what programs are needed.
Mr. Ferrera said that eight or ten programs for children had been added to the recreation program this summer. They created preschool age bracket classes including hour-long soccer, whiffleball, and track and field programs.
The township will also offer nature camps at Ann Van Middleworth park and trips in the summer to the Philadelphia Zoo, Pequest Trout Hatchery, and the Jersey shore.
Mr. Ferrera said the Recreation Commission is also finalizing an inclusive recreation program for Hillsborough’s 1,200 special needs children. The first event is expected to take place in June.
The Township Committee also passed a resolution for the hiring of a recreation assistant at the meeting on May 10.
