LETTERS: Food drive shows spirit

To the editor:

I was overwhelmed as the four public works men brought in nearly four full trucks filled with food collected from both the Kendall Park and Monmouth Junction post offices this past Monday after the May 14 collection for "Stamp Out Hunger." Our food pantry here in South Brunswick was nearly empty and this more than filled our shelves and bins.
We were desperately in need of food, and not sure how to get the community involved with the summer coming, and not being able to use the schools to get the word out. I want to thank the post offices that decided to be a part of this very important food drive, and hope that next year we can get the rest of South Brunswick’s post offices to work with us as well. We help on average 25 families/individuals with food each and every month, and more than 200 families during the holidays.
The South Brunswick Food Pantry is currently located temporarily in a trailer at Woodlot Park, but will be relocating during the early part of the summer to the Municipal Building. I ask all of you to remember that we need donations all year long, and if you can find it in your hearts to make a purchase of sale items every so often when you shop, it helps those less fortunate than yourselves feed their families.
I also want to send a special thank you to Cambridge School for their annual "Cereal Drive," which was held last week and was extremely successful. The children brought in 200 boxes of cereal.
My last thanks you goes to Speeney Family Chiropractic and Levinson Axelrod for arranging a food collection at the eighth annual "Kids Day America" held May 14. Dr. Speeney works closely with us throughout the year and does so much for this community.
South Brunswick continues to be a community we all should be thankful to be a part of.
