HIGHTSTOWN Two employees were held up at gunpoint in a borough retail store May 20 by three men who stole thousands of dollars in cash and merchandise, police said.
The men entered Raul Express Inc., 110 Main St., in the early afternoon displaying a silver handgun, police said. They bound two women employees’ wrists with duct tape in front of their bodies and told them to look down, police said.
The robbers told the women not to look at them "or they’ll be killed," said Detective Benjamin Miller. There were no other people in the store at the time, he said.
The men, who were in the store for about four minutes, took $5,000 in cash as well as $1,200 in watches and $500 in phone cards, police said. The robbers then fled, police said.
One of the women called the police at 1:24 p.m., police said. The employees still were bound with duct tape when the police arrived, police said. Detective Miller was unsure exactly how the woman managed to use the phone.
Neither of the women was injured, police said.
The men each is described as between 20 and 25 years old, between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 8 inches in height and Hispanic with dark hair, police said. Two of the men were thin, police said, and the third had a medium build.
Anyone with information should call Detective Miller at (609) 448-1234, ext. 508.
