Princeton HealthCare System invites the community to attend "Soul to Soul: Taking Care of Each Other," a dynamic celebration that will focus on the special health needs of African Americans, on Saturday, June 25.
Keynote speakers for the evening are Susan L. Taylor, editorial director of Essence magazine, and Michael Eric Dyson, Ph.D., a best-selling author and University of Pennsylvania professor who was recently named to Ebony magazine’s list of "100 Most Influential Black Americans."
The event is set for 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Princeton, 102 Carnegie Center Blvd., West Windsor. Registration is $30, including dinner and the opportunity to win door prizes.
Participants can register by calling (888) 742-7496 or by visiting www.princetonhcs.org.
"Soul to Soul" is designed to provide participants with an enjoyable evening of fellowship, personal enrichment and delicious food. It builds on the success of last year’s "Taking Care of Sisters" event by expanding the program to include men and emphasizing the role of mutual support and caring in good health.
"Last year’s celebration was sold out, so we’ve nearly doubled the number of participants we can accommodate this year," said Henry Davison Jr., M.D., event co-chair and immediate past president of the Medical & Dental Staff of Princeton HealthCare System. "Soul to Soul is the largest event of its kind for the African American community in Mercer County, and we are delighted to have speakers of such national prominence," Dr. Davison said.
Ms. Taylor, who spoke at last year’s program, will challenge and engage the audience about the importance of good health. Ms. Taylor’s appearance is sponsored by Johnson & Johnson Consumer Product Companies, Inc. Dr. Dyson, author of books including "Is Bill Cosby Right? Or Has the Black Middle Class Lost Its Mind?," will share his experiences and insights about health and illness.
Participants will also hear from several medical experts. Dr. Davison, who is board-certified in surgery, will offer a "wake-up call" for good health. John D. Passalaris, M.D., who is board-certified in cardiovascular diseases, echocardiography and internal medicine, will speak about heart disease. Ronald Morton, M.D., of The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, will address cancer risks, myths and guidelines.
Although this conference is targeted to the health needs of African Americans, all are invited to attend. The Hyatt Regency has a limited number of rooms available at discounted rates. Please call (800) 233-1234.
