The Old Bridge Hustlers U10 girls softball team continued its offensive rampage with a 24-4 victory at Fords on Sunday. Paige Weo’s four RBIs and three shutout innings of pitching led the Hustlers to their 10th victory of the season. In a balanced team effort the Hustlers combined for 16 hits while allowing only two. Defensively the Hustlers continued their outstanding play, led by Casey Raymond, Katie Amato and Natalie Norcutt. Paige Pentland pitched a strong three innings to earn the victory. The Hustlers improved to 10-3-1 in spring ball.
The Sayreville Rollin’ Thunder U11 boys travel soccer team came in first place at the East Windsor Summer Blast Tournament this past Saturday. With only one sub and no guest players the boys did an outstanding job, beating the South Brunswick Heat and the Tinton Falls Panthers, both with a score of 5-0. The offense was led by Olisa Eze, Brandon Woods, Ajani Phillips, Grant Newbold, Brendan Earls, Eric Weber and Sam Sidibeh, while the defensive effort was headed by Taariq Phillips, Emeka Eze, T.J. Mastrella and Deron Stephenson. Goalie Oren Pechyony was also stellar in net. The team is coached by Wayne Woods, Thomas Mastrella and Keith Woods.
The U12 Old Bridge Rockets captured their ninth straight win and clinched first place in their division with a 4-0 victory over the second-place Toms River Pythons Sunday in Old Bridge. Goaltenders Frank Roselli and Harry Grewel, along with fullbacks Jordan Moretti, Christian Llerena and Nick Santurro, and stoppers Charles Mantione and Gino Isola, preserved the clean sheet. Dan Scalgione chipped in two first-half goals, Nick Petruzzi assisted twice, Adam Eyerman scored from 25 yards out, and Sami Abdisubhan knocked in a Rich Loeffler direct kick. Dan Medina, Kevin DeMaio, Caine Czerula, Shawn Orzechowski and Josh Stein Ortiz provided excellent support play.
The Old Bridge Blue Thunder, a U9 girls travel soccer team, continued their late-season surge with a hard fought 2-1 win over a tough Colts Neck Comets squad in a MOSA travel soccer league match on Sunday. The Blue Thunder after a 1-2-1 start, are now 4-0-1 in their last five games.
Colts Neck started strong, scoring a goal in the game’s first two minutes, and threatening several times soon thereafter. The Blue Thunder, however, withstood the early onslaught and went into the half-time breakdown only a single goal. In the second half, the Blue Thunder responded with some of their best soccer of the season, combining aggressive play with good teamwork in scoring two goals while shutting out the Comets. The Blue Thunder is comprised of the following players: Victoria Beake, Jessica Betines, Christina Diakos, Courtney Durstewitz, Cassidy Flynn-Rozanski, Alexandria Grillo, Hannah Hallos, Erin Honan, Kelly Kracsun, Alexandra Maurer, Kelsey McDonough, Morgan Montgomery and Elizabeth Thoresen.

The Sayreville High School wrestling team will once again be sponsoring the fifth annual Bomber Wrestling Camp from July 5-8. The camp features some of the best coaches from around the state, allowing the kids to learn as well as take part in daily competitive matches. Any wrestler or those interested in wrestling in grades 4-8 can attend. The camp will be run at Sayreville High School at the cost of $100 per camper. The Old Bridge Soccer League Raiders need four players for the fall season. Applicants will be judged on speed and competitiveness. No experience necessary. The team teaches soccer. Must be born between Aug. 1, 1993, and July 31, 1994. Special tryouts will be held June 19 at 10 a.m. at Old Bridge High School West running track, and June 26 at 10 a.m. at the same location. The Cheesequake Chaos 12U All-Star Girls softball team started off its season with a second-place finish in the Union Lady Devils Memorial Day Madness Tournament. The Chaos came into the final game as the top seed after winning their first four games and played a tough championship game against the Union Lady Devils, losing 6-5.
One of the highlights of the tournament came in game No. 4. When the Chaos faced elimination losing 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh, Heather Forziati got on with a dropped third strike followed by a single from Brianne Kennedy. With runners on second and third facing elimination, Jillian Martin drilled a line drive to left center, driving in two runs to end the game.
The girls came out strong bolstered by the flawless pitching of Ashley Harper and Janine Averbach. The team was supported both defensively and offensively by the solid play of Krystal Godowski, Brianne Kennedy, Dominique Andre, Kristen Hart, Jillian Martin, Lizzie Sobel, Heather Forziati, Jessica Bucci and Jamie Cardullo.
Our Lady of Victory’s (Sayreville) fifth- and sixth-grade basketball team finished the season with a 46-1 record, and were crowned league and playoff champions in the OLV Sunday League and the Metuchen Diocese League. In addition, they won tournaments at St. Mary’s of South Amboy, OLV Sayreville, Sacred Heart in South Amboy, St. Francis Caberine in Piscataway, Corpus Christi in South River and St. Stan’s in Sayreville (second place).
In addition, several players received individual awards throughout the season. The players are: Jennifer Shereyka (2005 Msgr. Dalton Award, St. Mary’s tourney MVP, OLV tourney MVP, Sacred Heart tourney MVP, and a career 1,000-point scorer), Lexie Born (OLV Most Improved Player), Sydney Ramson (OLV All-Tournament Team and Metuchen Diocese playoff MVP), Julie Braun (St. Stan’s tourney MVP, OLV Most Improved Player — Father Mike Award), Jennifer Tennaro (OLV Sportsmanship Award), Mary Brennan, Katie Dovidauskas, Bridget Giovonco, Jessica Moran, Amanda Murray, Molly Sykas and Jamie Williams. The coach are Gary Shereyka and Rick Murray, while Donna Tennaro is the team mom.
