MILLSTONE — Some township residents just got a financial jump start on their careers in the medical field.
CentraState Healthcare System’s Associated Auxiliaries awarded $500 scholarships to seven township residents on June 6, according to Doreen Beaumont, secretary of the Millstone Township Hospital Auxiliary of CentraState Medical Center.
The Associated Auxiliaries, according to Beaumont, are all the auxiliaries that serve CentraState Medical Center.
According to Valerie Mac Phee, president of CentraState Associated Auxiliaries, the winners are Stephanie Bean, 18; Anjali Majumdar, 18; Theresa Costagliola, 18; Sonya Khurana, 17; Swarup Sai Swaminathan, 18; Tami Lieberman, 18; and Laura Giffen, the adult winner.
“This was an unparalleled event,” Beaumont said.
According to Beaumont, the auxiliaries normally offer three $500 scholarships each year to community volunteers who plan to pursue a career in the health-care field.
“Two recipients would be graduating seniors and one an adult returning to college,” Beaumont said.
Each year, the recipients are chosen by a review committee that examines each applicant’s high school transcript, application form, essay and letters of recommendation.
With regard to this year’s recipients, Beaumont said, “These seven high-achieving candidates exhibited such significant high qualities of determination and compassion for others, which was evident in the many ways that they have volunteered in their communities.”
Because of the applicants’ outstanding achievements this year, Beaumont said the Scholarship Committee unanimously agreed to present a scholarship to all of them.
“We again congratulate the winners and wish them success in achieving the goals they have set for themselves,” Beaumont said.
Auxiliary members held a small ceremony for the scholarship recipients Monday night at Applewood Estates, a life-care retirement community located in Freehold Township.
