Joseph M. McCarthy Sr.
Mr. McCarthy, 74, of South Amboy, died May 25 at home. He was employed at the South Amboy Housing Authority for 13 years, retiring in 1998. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon, Combat Action Ribbon and New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal. He is survived by his wife, Rose Kudelka McCarthy; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph M. and Carol McCarthy Jr. of Wallingford, Conn.; a sister, Mary Rosinski of Parlin; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy. Entombment was in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, South Amboy. Memorial donations may be made to South Amboy First Aid Squad, P.O. Helen M. Shanta Schaffer
Mrs. Schaffer, 85, of Parlin and formerly South River, died May 30 at St. Peter’s University Medical Center, New Brunswick. She was predeceased by her husband, John P. Schaffer in February; and two sisters, Elizabeth Molnar and Mary Matuska. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kathy Schaffer of Parlin; a sister, Ann Siedlecki of South River; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Maliszewski Memorial Home, Sayreville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stephen’s Protomartyr Roman Catholic Church, South River. Burial was at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
Mary Lorraine Carey Moran
Mrs. Moran, 72, of Sayreville, died June 2 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are her husband, John; four children, Deborah Russo of Freehold, Dennis of Sayreville, Doreen Michalak, also of Sayreville, and Diane Randazzo of the Toms River section of Dover; and seven grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Our Lady of Victories Church, Sayreville. Interment was in New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin section of Sayreville.
James J. Coyle
Mr. Coyle, 83, of Sayreville, died May 30 at Care One, East Brunswick. He was a plumbing inspector for the Borough of Sayreville for 10 years, retiring eight years ago. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Horvath; two sons, Brian Coyle of Point Pleasant, and James Coyle Jr. of Sayreville; three brothers, William, John and George Coyle, all Sayreville; and three sisters, Evelyn Bloodgood of South River, Sr. Mary Louise Coyle RSM of North Plainfield, and Patricia Coyle of Sayreville. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Victories Roman Catholic Church, Sayreville. Burial was at New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin. Rose Francy Holovacko
Mrs. Holovacko, 82, of South Amboy, died May 28 at Victoria House, Matawan. She was predeceased by her husband, James in 1993; a brother, George Francy; a sister, Winifred Karamon; a son-in-law, Edward Cieslarczyk; and two grandsons, Michael Holovacko and Stephen Cieslarczyk. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Mary Ann Holovacko of Cape Coral, Fla., Thomas and Sandee Holovacko of Morgan, and Michael and Angela Holovacko of South Amboy; a daughter, Rose Cieslarczyk of South Amboy; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Ann Francy of Perth Amboy; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Francy of South Amboy; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Sophie Gursky
Mrs. Gursky, 82, of Freehold, died May 31 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had resided in Bayonne before moving to Freehold 19 years ago. She was predeceased by a daughter, Elaine, in 1997, and a brother, Richard. Surviving are her husband, Frank; a son, Walter of Freehold; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Fred Rolon of Old Bridge; two sisters, Helen Abbate of Delray Beach, Fla., and Viola Kotarski of Maspeth, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Suzanne M. Medina Scotto
Mrs. Scotto, 36, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died June 3 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division. Surviving are her husband, Domenico Scotto; three children, Elvia, Salvatore and Nicholas Scotto; her father, John Medina of Sayreville; her mother, Barbara Selegment of Maine; a brother, Nicholas Medina of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, JoAnn Medina of Woodbridge; her paternal grandmother, Alfonsa Medina of Sayreville; and two uncles and an aunt. Mrs. Addeo, 80, of the Parlin section of Old Bridge, died June 1 at home. Her husband, John, died in 1996. Surviving are two daughters, Carol Ann Deptula of Frontroyal, Va., and Jennifer Walsh of Sharpsburg, Md.; a son, John of Howell; a brother, William Billand; a sister, Josephine Nowell; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Ratajczik, 86, died June 1 in Briarwood Care and Rehabilitation Center, South Amboy. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, and by a son, William. Surviving are a son, Frank Ratajczik; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Ratajczik; a grandson; and many nieces and nephews. Services were held at Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy. Paul J. D’Arbenzio
Mr. D’Arbenzio, 44, of Old Bridge, died June 4 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division. Surviving are his wife, Fortunata Sforza D’Arbenzio; three sons, Paul Jr., Steven and John, all at home; his father, John P. of Staten Island, N.Y.; a brother, John N., also of Staten Island; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Kern, 84, of Sayreville, died May 28 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Kern was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude Woeckener Kern, in 2003; and two brothers, William and Robert Kern. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George F. and Janet Lee Kern III of South Amboy; a daughter and son-in-law, Frieda and Ronald Trabalka of South Amboy; a brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Mrs. Patterson, 92, of Sayreville, died May 26 at home. She was predeceased by a grandson, Joseph Glenn; and 10 siblings.
