Board of Education members will discuss their accomplished goals and set new ones for the coming year during their annual board retreat on June 20.
"A board retreat gives the opportunity for the board members to discuss the past year’s activities," said Richard Reilly, board secretary and business administrator.
During the special public meeting — set for 6 p.m. at Alexander Batcho Intermediate School — board members, Superintendent Donald Burkhardt and Carole Larsen, New Jersey School Boards Association field service representative, acting as the moderator, will be concentrating on what progress has been made toward the district’s goals and objectives, identifying any critical issues and goals for the future.
"Facilitated board goal-setting sessions are very common at this time of the year," Ms. Larsen said. "Facilitation allows all members of the board team to participate in the discussion rather than having someone from the team moderate the discussion and thereby miss out on full participation."
Board members will be concentrating on five 2004-05 goals: improving instructional services and delivery across the curriculum in social studies for K-12; continuing to improve instructional services and delivery across the curriculum in mathematics for K-12; improving instructional services and delivery across the curriculum in language art literacy and in technology for K-12; and organizing nursing programs and practices throughout the district by compiling a nursing handbook and standardizing practices.
"It’s beneficial to the Board of Education, staff and students to set a plan for constant improvement to the school district by setting annual goals and objectives," Mr. Reilly said. "In this way, the local taxpayers benefit by having improved school systems."
