NONPROFIT
   Child Care Connection, a not-for-profit child care resource and referral organization, announced the following board members:
   Brigitte Bernard-Rau of West Windsor, a consultant for the Resource Foundation in New York where she monitors and evaluates projects sponsored by major U.S. corporations in Central and Latin America; Sandra Campbell of Trenton, a program manager for the food delivery unit of WIC Services, part of the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services; Patricia Van Ness, of Ewing, retired from the Princeton Regional School District after 35 years much of which was spent in the kindergarten classroom; and Princeton resident Debbie Watson, a college consultant and private academic coach.
   Serving Central Jersey, the agency offers child care referrals, applications for child care subsidy programs, and training to child care providers, as well as adult care referral services. Child Care Connection can be found at www.childcareconnection-nj.org.
SERVICES
   Margaret A. Shapses is now general manager at Spa Therapia in Montgomery. She is responsible for the day-to-day management of the spa, including directing the highly-trained team of aestheticians, marketing the spa and its services to new and existing clientele, developing new offerings that meet clients’ demands, and handling all outreach with the community.
   Spa Therapia, a luxury day spa offering an array of soothing and anti-aging treatments for mind, body and soul, is located on State Road.
RETAIL
   Taco Bell Corp. recently honored New Jersey franchisee John Tomasulo and his director of operations Frank Mazzella of Delectabell Management Inc. with the 2004 Operator of the Year Award. The annual award is given to the company’s highest-achieving franchise for their outstanding performance during the last year in sales, operations and marketing. Delectabell operates three Taco Bell restaurants in the Mercer County area — all have achieved consistent same store sales growth over the last three years, and have exhibited outstanding drive through speed of service. Delectabell Management Inc.’s three franchises are located on Sloan Avenue and South Broad Street in Hamilton and Princeton-Hightstown Road in East Windsor.
GOOD DEEDS
   Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals received the 2005 Star Stream Award from the Mid-Jersey Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in recognition of its worldwide commitment to the treatment of diabetes. Michael Barszcz, director of business and account development for the firm accepted the award at a black-tie dinner recently, raising more than $220,000 for research to find a cure for juvenile diabetes. Headquartered in Denmark, the healthcare company is a world leader in diabetes care. Novo Nordisk is located locally in Plainsboro.

   Lawrence-based malpractice insurance company MDAdvantage recently honored health care’s finest at the 2005 Edward J. Ill Awards Dinner. Profits from the event were donated to the Hyacinth AIDS Foundation. Among the honorees were Dr. Stuart D. Cook, Dr. Thomas Bojko and Dr. Thomas A. Cavalieri, all serving on the faculty of University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey and Christy Stephenson, president and CEO of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton.
   First held in 1939, the awards ceremony "gives an opportunity to step back and revel in the excellence of medicine in New Jersey," said Patricia A. Costante, chairman and CEO of MDAdvantage.
BUSINESS ADVOCATES
   The New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners named Linda Principe Business Woman of the Year. This highest honor recognizes her as an outstanding member who has distinguished herself in business, the association and the community. Nominated by the Mercer Chapter of NJAWBO, where she was that chapter’s Women Business Owner of the Year, Ms. Principe is the only person nominated from two chapters as she received the same award from the Middlesex Chapter in 1999.
   An active member in NJAWBO since joining the organization in 1989, she has held numerous positions on the chapter and state boards.
   Ms. Principe has owned and operated Linda Principe Interiors, located in Plainsboro, for 17 years and is certified as a Women Business Enterprise by the NJ Commerce & Economic Growth Commission.

   The New Jersey Business & Industry Association recently presented New Good Neighbor Awards to 12 construction projects involving everything from renovated office buildings to state-of-the-art distribution centers. The New Good Neighbor Awards recognize some of the state’s most impressive new construction and renovation projects. The winners were selected by an independent panel of 19 judges based on economic impact, architectural merit and community involvement. In all, 31 projects were nominated for the award.
   The local 2005 winners are 120 Main Street, Hightstown; Lyric Hall of Rocky Hill; Mercedes-Benz Regional Master Parts Distribution Center, Robbinsville; Firmenich’s "The Prism" Fragrance Laboratory, Plainsboro; and Lewis Sigler Genomic Institute for Integrated Studies at Princeton University.

   The New Jersey Economic Development Authority has named Hightstown resident Michael Wiley Innovation Zone Project Officer. He will oversee three technology neighborhoods in North Jersey as part of the Innovation Zone Program, designed to spur collaboration among the state’s research universities, medical research facilities and technology businesses to encourage the more rapid transfer of discoveries from the laboratory to the marketplace.
   Mr. Wiley’s background includes commercial contracting, intellectual property/technology licensing and business development experience for organizations such as Lucent Technologies, Rutgers University’s Office of Corporate Liaison and Technology Transfer, and Avaya Inc.
LAW
   Richard H. Steen, a Lawrenceville resident and Princeton attorney, was installed as secretary of the New Jersey State Bar Association. He also serves as trustee for the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, the NJSBA’s philanthropic arm.
   Mr. Steen has been a member of the NJSBA for 28 years and has served on several boards and committees. Active within his community, he is a member of the Lawrence Township Municipal Court Mediation Committee and is a deacon of the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church. His law firm, Richard H. Steen LLC, is located in Princeton.

   Saul Ewing LLP has welcomed Louis N. Magazzu to the firm as special counsel in its Princeton office. A freeholder of Cumberland County, he will split his time between his responsibilities as a freeholder and his law practice. His emphasis is on real estate, zoning and planning matters, and municipal government law.
   Mr. Magazzu served as the city solicitor for Vineland where he pioneered an economic development incentive program allowing low-interest municipal loans to be repaid using property tax dollars. He has been named one of the "100 New Democrats to Watch" by the National Democratic Leadership Council.

   Ronald L. Pearl and Michael S. Karpoff, partners in the Princeton firm of Hill Wallack, have been named New Jersey Super Lawyers in the association/nonprofit category by Law & Politics and the publishers of New Jersey Monthly.
   The 2005 Super Lawyers represent the top five percent of attorneys in New Jersey, as recognized by their peers. Listed in the 2005 edition of New Jersey Super Lawyers, an annual magazine featuring articles about the legal community mailed to every lawyer in New Jersey, they also were featured in a special section of the May issue of New Jersey Monthly.
