On Campus

Katherine Chillscyzn of Freehold, a freshman social work major in the College of Human Services and Health Professions of Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y., recently received the Freshman Award at the college’s annual ceremony. The award is presented to a student who demonstrates outstanding potential in the first year of his or her program.

Adam R. Raphael, son of Darlene and Michael Raphael of Marlboro, has graduated from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. A 2001 graduate of Marlboro High School, he is pursuing a master of science degree in education counseling at Monmouth University, West Long Branch.

Jessica Cohen of Manalapan, a graduating senior majoring in broadcast journalism at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communi-cations, was recognized with the Radio-TV News Power Producer Award at the school’s convocation. The award recognizes an outstanding graduating senior who has shown the greatest aptitude for writing and producing newscasts.

Amy R. Schwartz, daughter of Barbara and Ira Schwartz of Marlboro, has graduated from Penn State Univer-sity, State College, Pa., with a bachelor of arts degree in communications with a minor in business and international studies. She will pursue a master’s degree in international politics at the University of Manchester, Manchester, England, in the fall. She is a 2001 graduate of Marlboro High School.

Philip Feltz of Manalapan, a student at Rutgers University, recently received a scholarship from the Con-struction Industry Advancement Pro-gram of New Jersey. The scholarships are awarded to New Jersey civil engineering and construction technology undergraduates who complete 12 weeks of construction industry employment.

Britt Travis, daughter of Bridgette Travi, of Manalapan, has graduated cum laude from Monmouth University, West Long Branch. She received honors from Phi Eta Sigma, Lambda Sigma Tau and Lambda Phi Eta honor societies, and was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester. She studied at Regents College in London, England, and the University of Hawaii, Oahu. She is a 2001 graduate of St. John Vianney High School, Holmdel.

Jennifer Simester, a sophomore at Colgate University, Hamilton, N.Y., has been named a Dana Scholar in recognition of academic achievement and demonstrated leadership in the campus community. She is the daughter of James H. and Karen M. Simester of Freehold.

Michael J. Monroe of Freehold has graduated cum laude from Boston University’s College of Communication.

Lafayette University, Easton, Pa., has awarded degrees to the following graduates from the local area: Marly I. Hammer of Colts Neck received a bachelor of arts degree in art, with honors and the Frederick Knecht Detwiller Prize; Joseph M. Ungrady of Freehold earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics and business; Dennis L. Schlegel of Howell received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology; and Robyn B. Appel of Marlboro earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology.

Ocean County College, Toms River, has awarded degrees to the following local residents:

Associate in arts degrees were awarded to Melissa J. Neuhaus of Freehold, who also was selected for Who’s Who Among Students at Ocean County College; and Howell residents Kathleen Phang Cheng, Ryan J. Gogerty, Tara M. Walker, Frank Mattioli and Tara L. Candell.

Associate in applied science degrees were awarded to John R. Marshall Jr. of Farmingdale; Cynthia Arsenault of Freehold; and Anita M. Clemente and Carol J. Tomazic, both of Howell.

Associate in science degrees were awarded to Bambi B. Melnick of Farmingdale; and Howell residents Stacy E. Fitzgerald, Donna-Michelle Matay and Holly A. Montalbano.

In addition, the following local students received their nursing pins and were awarded associate in applied science degrees in nursing: John R. Marshall Jr. of Farmingdale, who also received the Ocean Medical Center Award in Clinical Nursing; and Anita Clemente of Howell.

Adam Rothschild, son of Jill and Arthur Rothschild, of the Morganville section of Marlboro, has graduated from Hofstra University, Hempstead, N.Y., with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. He has been accepted to the master of arts in counselor education degree program at The College of New Jersey, Ewing, and will attend in the fall.

Mandy Zwirn, daughter of Rhonda and Marty Zwirn of Marlboro, has graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, with a master of science degree in telecommunications management.

Bethany S. Amico, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Amico of Freehold, has graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, Charleston. Cadet Amico earned a bachelor of science degree in education. She also achieved dean’s list recognition and earned a Gold Star award for achieving a grade point average of 3.7 or higher.

William N. Cosentino, son of William and Rose Ann Cosentino of Freehold Township, has earned a bachelor of science degree in business from LaSalle University, Philadelphia, where he was a member of the men’s soccer team for four years.

Thomas Peters of Freehold Township has graduated from Rutgers College, Rutgers University, New Bruns-wick, with bachelor of arts degree, receiving highest honors as well as the Weill and Wolfson awards for scholarship in mathematics. He has been named a faculty fellow in the Department of Mathematics at Columbia University, New York City, where he will begin a doctorate program in the fall. He is a 2002 graduate of Freehold Township High School.

Jared Make, son of Irene and Ron Make of Freehold Township, has graduated from Wesleyan University, Middletown, Conn., with a bachelor’s degree in American studies, with departmental honors. He also was elected Phi Beta Kappa, Gamma of Connecticut Chapter.

Brooke Kotick, daughter of Felice and Philip Kotick of Marlboro, has been named to the dean’s list at the College of Health and Human Development of Penn State University, State College, Pa. She is a 2002 graduate of Marlboro High School.
