An interim superintendent of schools, who will fill in while the school board searches for someone to replace out-going Superintendent of Schools Max Riley, is expected to be appointed by the Lawrence Township Board of Education this week.
Thomas Butler, who is finishing a stint as interim superintendent in the Highland Park school system, is expected to be named at the school board’s Wednesday night meeting, according to school board President Laura Waters.
Mr. Butler will be paid $800 per day for his services, Ms. Waters said. The board expects to appoint him for a six-month term beginning July 1, but may extend his contract if it cannot find a superintendent within that time frame, she said.
The school board met in closed session Monday night to interview Mr. Butler, Ms. Waters said. He was the unanimous choice of the school board members who attended the meeting. School board member Michael Wilson was absent, she said.
