Four arrested in city drug bust

LONG BRANCH –– A Long Branch man was arrested last week for allegedly distributing cocaine and other illegal substances in two city residences.

On June 3 at approximately 12:40 a.m., the Long Branch Community Response Unit, Detectives Unit and the Patrol Division simultaneously executed two search warrants; one at a residence in the Woodrow Wilson Homes complex and the other at a residence on MacArthur Avenue, according to police reports.

At the Woodrow Wilson Homes residence, officers arrested three men and seized cocaine, heroin, marijuana and over 1,250 Ecstasy pills with a street value between $30,000 and $35,0000.

Also located at that address were packaging materials, approximately $500 in cash and a police scanner, according to police reports.

Monty Robinson, 46, Union Avenue, was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, heroin and marijuana and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute within 500 feet of public housing.

Robinson was transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold where bail was set at $52,500 with no 10 percent option.

Robert E. Smith Jr.,47, who resided at the residence,. was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine and was later released on a summons.

His son, Jose A. Smith, 19, of the same address, was also arrested and charged with possession of Ecstasy, possession of Ecstasy with intent to distribute and distribution of Ecstasy within 500 feet of public housing, according to reports.

His bail was set at $52,500, with no 10 percent option.

According to police, Robinson was found to have been also utilizing a residence on MacArthur Avenue where Nicole Rutledge, 35, resided.

Rutledge was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $2,500, according to police.
