“Support Our Heroes,” a black tie affair dinner/dance to benefit the Fisher House Foundation will be held on Friday, June 24, beginning at 6 p.m. at Gibbs Hall, Fort Monmouth. Admission is $75 per person. Proceeds will go to the foundation which sponsors the Fisher Houses, residential facilities designed to house families of servicemen in military hospitals who are recuperating from injuries incurred while serving our country.
The fund-raiser is also designed to heighten awareness on the Disabled Soldiers Support System (DS3), a program for helping disabled veterans transition back to civilian life.

Long Branch Middle School student Alex Cotto will be among 200 middle school students from throughout the United States at the Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC) from June 25 through July 4 in Washington, D.C.

The Adoptive Parents Committee (APC) of North/Central New Jersey will hold a free adoption meeting on Sunday, June 26, at St. Anselm’s Church, 1028 Wayside Road, Wayside. Members and non-members are welcome.
The program includes a Parent Idea Exchange and a forum for prospective, new and experienced adoptive parents to share their concerns, thoughts and child-rearing experiences. A group of APC parents will discuss their independent and agency adoptions journeys. The program will be followed by dessert and discussion.

The Greater Ocean Township Chamber of Commerce will hold its bi-annual business meeting and luncheon on Tuesday, June 28, at Mike & Nellies in Oakhurst. There will be a buffet lunch served at noon. Guest speaker is New Jersey Devils alumnus Ken Daneyko, who is one of just five members of all three of the state’s Stanley Cup Championship teams.
In addition, $1,500 scholarship checks will be awarded to the five high school seniors chosen by the scholarship committee. The winners are: Danielle DeBenedetto, Lisa Setrin, Sari Lamela, Yinnely Davidson and Rachel Attner. Also being honored that day are the Poplar Village volunteers who help the chamber with their monthly mailings.
