EDISON — A township man who was escorted out of a local bar ended up the victim of a knife attack and attempted robbery.

The victim was a 49-year-old man who had been drinking at the Corner Pocket Bar on Route 27 on June 11 when he was escorted out of the bar around 3 a.m., Patrolman Robert Dudash said.

“He was somewhat intoxicated and was asked to leave,” Dudash said.

The man was escorted out of the bar by management and left in the parking lot, according to the police report.

While in the lot, he was approached by two black men, according to the report. The men were both described by the victim as in their mid-20s with medium builds and wearing black clothing.

“They approached the victim and one of them brandished a knife,” Dudash said. “He pointed it at the victim and demanded his wallet. The victim then grabbed the suspect’s arm and a struggle ensued.”

The suspects broke free, according to the police report, fled on foot and then jumped into a black Honda (unknown make and model) and headed down Plainfield Avenue toward Route 1 and out of sight.

Dudash added that the suspects, who are still at large, did not end up getting away with any of the victim’s belongings.

“Because of the struggle with the knife, the victim ended up with lacerations to both his left and right hands,” he said. “He was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment.”

The incident is still under investigation.

“The descriptions were very vague because of the hour of the morning and the circumstances,” Dudash said.
