Last fall, Larry Young pleased fans of Northern Burlington County Regional High School girls’ varsity soccer by leading a very young Greyhounds squad back into the playoffs.
Young is now ready to lend his expertise to the first-ever Northern Burlington Soccer Camp for area boys and girls ages 6-14, who are interested in learning the proper techniques of playing soccer. The camp is open to rec and travel players and will run from July 18-22 (9 a.m. to 12 noon each day).
Young and the entire NBC soccer coaching staff will be instructing campers on how to improve foot speed, dribbling, passing, combination play, off the ball movement and finishing. The camp will even offer instruction in goal-keeping techniques.
"The fee for this camp will be $55 per player with "ALL" proceeds benefiting the girls’ soccer program at Northern Burlington High School. The camp will be conducted on the fields on the east side of the high school campus. In case of inclement weather, the East Gymnasium will be used. All players will receive a camp T-shirt. Water will be provided and a certified athletic trainer will be available," noted Young in the camp brochure.
All players who attend the camp must bring their own spikes, sneakers and shin guards (which are mandatory).
Players from the NBC boys and girls’ varsity soccer teams will assist in training campers in the same techniques and plays which are currently used by all NBC high school soccer squads.
By using actual players, as instructors, Young expects to add an atmosphere of fun and education to the camp.
For more information on the camp Young and his staff can be reached at [email protected].
After a registration sheet (supplied by Young) is filled out which includes the child’s name, address, phone number, age, sex, t-shirt size, level of play (rec or travel), goal keeping preference and medical concerns, checks can be made payable to NBSC and mailed to: NBSC, 59 Quail Hollow Dr., Westampton, NJ 08060. The deadline for the camp registration is July 9th. Registrations are on the camp brochure.
TENNIS
Recently Young made an even bigger name for himself by leading a relatively inexperienced boys’ tennis team back into the playoffs. From that squad first singles star Jaren Anacan, a team captain, made First Team All-Liberty and was chosen as the team MVP. He also advanced all the way to the third round of the states singles tournament.
Second singles star David Isenmenn was a Second Team All-Liberty selection while Doug Zytko and Hassan Chaudry (first doubles) were picked as Second Team all-stars as well.
Young expects to have everyone back (including Ryan Quinn, David Tong, Brandon D’Amato and Kevin Lawton) except for Isenmenn.
