HOLLYWOOD CITY SOUTH Lewis John Rembelis died June 15 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. He was 83.
Born in Nanticoke, Pa., he lived in Manville from 1951-1972, then in White House Station, before moving to Hollywood City South in Berkeley Township in 1989.
Mr. Rembelis worked as a machinist at Johns Manville Corp. in Manville for 33 years.
He served in the US Army during World War II serving in the Phillipines where he received a Bronze Star and in the Asiatic Pacific where he received two bronze stars.
Prior to his military service, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
He was a parishioner of Christ the King Church where he was president of the Holy Name Society and in 1964 was named CYO "Man of the Year."
He was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2290 in Manville.
In 1989 he became an active member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Roman Catholic Church in Berkeley Township, and served as a Eucharist Minister. He recently was named a trustee of the church.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Walter, Stanley and John; and sisters, Lillian and Antoinette; and half-sisters Pearl and Albina.
Surviving are his wife Mary (Turnack) Rembelis; two daughters, Patricia Kensinger of Tunkhannock, Pa., and Marie Keegan of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sons, David of Bordentown and Kenneth of Milford; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held June 21 from Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals in Toms River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church. Burial was in New Jersey Veteran Cemetery, Arneytown.
