Take the time to save time
By: Mae Rhine
We’ve always been an advocate of a town using resources found within its own community or the surrounding area.
Our area has a wealth of experts, many of whom are willing to offer their services for free.
Stockton seems to have hit on a good thing with an offer from Carol Peccarelli, an expert in organization development.
She wants to help the Borough Council get more organized and on track; something we all can use in our personal as well as professional lives.
Members of governing bodies often have full-time jobs as well as family responsibilities besides their civic duties. Their time is valuable, but often it’s easy to waste time arguing over procedures and what they believe is important to their towns.
Ms. Peccarelli, a resident of nearby Delaware Township and a former resident of the borough, is willing to offer this high-priced service for free to the council. Her services sometimes command $3,000 to $4,000 a day.
Investing time to work with her certainly can’t hurt. She estimated Stockton officials would need only about four to six hours to help them hammer out issues that prevent them from staying on track.
She says her job is all about "helping organizations become more effective."
That certainly is worth the time and effort.
